Ohio State-Michigan
Winning Big Ten now tops agenda

THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH

Ohio State-Michigan is known as The Game, but with each team losing its previous game for the first time since 1959, OSU's Malcolm Jenkins said Saturday's 2007 edition has become the game. "Our whole season is riding on this game," the junior defensive back said yesterday. "If we win, we win the Big Ten (outright), go to the Rose Bowl or wherever else.
"But if we lose, we don't get any part of the Big Ten. We just become another Ohio State team, basically. Nothing will be special about the 2007 team. So this game is the game of the season."

Of late Buckeyes the victors valiant
Carr, UM seeking to reverse recent OSU dominance
BY LARRY LAGE | THE ASSOCIATED PRESS

ANN ARBOR, Mich. - Lloyd Carr smiled as he walked in front of rows of reporters and a string of TV cameras, then cracked a couple of jokes and chuckled at times over the next 30-plus minutes Monday while discussing one of the biggest games of his career.
Michigan and Ohio State both knocked some luster off their upcoming matchup, but it didn't diminish how desperately Carr needs to beat Jim Tressel and the Buckeyes.
Add to that fact a widely held belief that this will be Carr's last season, and the importance of the game for his legacy comes into focus.

BEAT BLUE

Kinda sucks for us onthe west coast....game will be on at 9 in the morning. I'll be lucky to be out of bed by then. I was extremely disappointed about the loss loast Sat to Illinois. I only got to see the first half since my sister, not as hardcore a fan as I am, decided to schedule her wedding at 2pm right in the middle of the second half. Un-grateful sister. I was like, "Hey come on its your second wedding.....cant ya wait an hour or two"

But it sets up a great game for this Saturday. I just bought two Rose Bowl ticketes yesterday since Im only 3 hours from Pasadena. See ya Janurary 1st........

I said before the season started that this is Lloyd Carr's last season as head coach. He isn't going to get fired, officially, even if he wins zero games. He'll retire. (He may be "encouraged" to retire, but he's out after this season.)

Of course - that's just my guess. But I don't think I'm ever wrong.

He's currently 6-6 against Ohio State. 5-1 against John Cooper and 1-5 against Jim Tressel. A win this weekend and he gets to retire with a winning record against Ohio State.

So for those of you who are on the fence for which team to root for (:lol:), figure out if you want Carr to retire with a winning record against Ohio State, or a losing record.

This is off the top of my head so feel free to correct me but:

A lot of people don't remember that if we win in 2003 we out-BCS the other 1 loss teams and are in the BCS championship game. It was a done deal according to all the BCS guru's.

The last time OSU and tsun played for a trip to the Rose Bowl with no NC implications was all the way back in '86. That was not for an outright B10 title however.

Before that you have to go back to '75 to have The Game decide an outright B10 title no matter who won but that had NC implications.

Now you have to go back to the 50's-60's and tsun was down then.

I think it makes a good point that when OSU and tsun are on form it usually means there are NC implications to The Game.

Thanks for that. I remembered 2003 being another year where Ohio State refused to leave the NC picture despite protests from fans and pundits. Just imagine the utter BCS apocalypse if The Game came out differently and we had tOSU vs. Oklahoma in the Sugar Bowl for the title with NEITHER USC or LSU getting a shot. Yoovem may have prolonged the life of the BCS another 10 years with that one win. I leave it to you personally to decide if that was a good thing or not.

By ruling of the coin flip I am obligated to say:
[strike]GO BLUE![/strike] SCREW BLUE!
:osu2:

NOTE: Um, yeah I went ahead and reflipped your defective coin. Got it right this time. :) You're welcome - 3yards

That was my contention after seeing the Wisky game as well. Henne made that shoulder worse and Hart can't get medical clearance to play 7 days before The Game. This isn't a ploy by the coaches. There is just no way those guys are going to be anywhere near 100%.

So much is riding on this for Michigan: legacies for the seniors, Carr's career record against Ohio State (he is 6-6), a Rose Bowl bid. Even Hart knows that if he loses to Ohio State again, anything that comes out of his mouth will seem like hot air.
You can say many things about Carr's 1-5 record against Jim Tressel. You can say Carr has been outcoached. You can say he never came close to figuring out quarterback Troy Smith. You can say the games were almost all close. You can say Ohio State has beaten almost everybody else, too.
But you can't fairly say that Ohio State is in the Wolverines' heads. Michigan has played hard and played well in every game but the 2004 edition. Whatever Carr's flaws are, he knows how to motivate his team against the Buckeyes.
As Johnson said: "We treat Ohio State like a one-game season, so we'll be ready to go."
Of course, by that standard, Michigan has gone winless in five of its past six one-game seasons. Ohio State lost its No. 1 ranking Saturday. That will dampen the national enthusiasm for next week's game, but for U-M, a victory over Ohio State would smell just as sweet.

Of course, there's no good way to know for sure (short of going back and having the voters and computer formulas re-pick their rankings based on this scenario), but if Oklahoma is #1 and Ohio State is #2, and LSU is #3 and USC is #4, why is that bad that LSU and USC don't get a shot? Last time I checked, #3 and #4 never get a shot. BCS title game is for #1 and #2 only.

Back on topic: any chance Hart is still broken? Or Henne? Any chance Boeckman has solved whatever it was that broke his brain against Illinois? I think that Boeckman is the key to Ohio State's offense. If he gets his throws down field, it opens up Beanie's running game. If Michigan can keep a lid on Boeckman's passing, Beanie and the rest of the offense is in trouble, in my opinion. I don't think it works the other way around in this game. I don't think Beanie can run effectively enough early in the game to open up Boeckman's passing game.

Defensively, I don't know if there's much to worry about, unless Michigan has got a read-option game. Of course, Hart, when healthy, is good enough to worry about. And he'll get his yards and points. But I think that he, alone, can beat Ohio State. I think that this side relies a lot on the defensive line. If those guys can eat up the offensive line, Henne/Mallett will be pressured into some mistakes, and Hart will be stopped quickly by OSU's linebackers.

As is always the case with The Game, big plays will be key. Will Michigan get more big plays, or will Ohio State? And I think this goes back to Boeckman. If his big plays are for Ohio State, Buckeyes win. If his big plays are for Michigan, well, you know...

Zurp's Iron Sock Filled With Bunny Rabbits Prediction: Ohio State 74 - Michigan 8.

WESTMORELAND. O that we now had here
But one ten thousand of those men in England
That do no work to-day!

KING. What's he that wishes so?
My cousin Westmoreland? No, my fair cousin;
If we are mark'd to die, we are enow
To do our country loss; and if to live,
The fewer men, the greater share of honour.
God's will! I pray thee, wish not one man more.
By Jove, I am not covetous for gold,
Nor care I who doth feed upon my cost;
It yearns me not if men my garments wear;
Such outward things dwell not in my desires.
But if it be a sin to covet honour,
I am the most offending soul alive.
No, faith, my coz, wish not a man from England.
God's peace! I would not lose so great an honour
As one man more methinks would share from me
For the best hope I have. O, do not wish one more!
Rather proclaim it, Westmoreland, through my host,
That he which hath no stomach to this fight,
Let him depart; his passport shall be made,
And crowns for convoy put into his purse;
We would not die in that man's company
That fears his fellowship to die with us.
This day is call'd the feast of Crispian.
He that outlives this day, and comes safe home,
Will stand a tip-toe when this day is nam'd,
And rouse him at the name of Crispian.
He that shall live this day, and see old age,
Will yearly on the vigil feast his neighbours,
And say 'To-morrow is Saint Crispian.'
Then will he strip his sleeve and show his scars,
And say 'These wounds I had on Crispian's day.'
Old men forget; yet all shall be forgot,
But he'll remember, with advantages,
What feats he did that day. Then shall our names,
Familiar in his mouth as household words-
Harry the King, Bedford and Exeter,
Warwick and Talbot, Salisbury and Gloucester-
Be in their flowing cups freshly rememb'red.
This story shall the good man teach his son;
And Crispin Crispian shall ne'er go by,
From this day to the ending of the world,
But we in it shall be remembered-
We few, we happy few, we band of brothers;
For he to-day that sheds his blood with me
Shall be my brother; be he ne'er so vile,
This day shall gentle his condition;
And gentlemen in England now-a-bed
Shall think themselves accurs'd they were not here,
And hold their manhoods cheap whiles any speaks
That fought with us upon Saint Crispin's day.

Just win, baby! :oh:
