I enjoyed this show. It confirmed for me just how fanatical the fans involved in this rivalry can be (are!) but it also explained why pretty well.

I, of course, don't know that much about the history of these two states and the part about the "Toledo Strip" was news to me. That is an old, old, old grudge!

I don't think I could stand living in that town that straddles the two states. It seems like it would be too much like living in a constant state of civil war, brother against brother sort of thing.

I really enjoyed seeing how Woody and Bo worked so energetically against each other but also came to such an understanding and friendship towards the end. It made me sad to hear that Woody died so soon after his speech but it was inspiring at the same time to know that he made sure to do it before he died. Bo was very young when he passed and that is a tragedy as well.

All in all, coming from the perspective of someone who DOESN'T know all this information already, I found the show to be informative and relatively balanced. I learned quite a bit not only about the Game, but also about why it is such a rivalry, what it has come to really mean to people, and how it permeates not only the two states, but everyone in it, from birth to death.

A couple of great moments that illustrate this for me:
*the extremely elderly, stooped gentleman, walking past other fans, who says "Go Blue!"
*the newborn baby, still in the hospital, draped in an OSU jacket*

The entire first half of the show is dedicated to *ichigan, but yes it does come off with an OSU slant, by the end. However, I strongly feel it is because there is so little recorded imagery of the early years of tSUN's triumphs. Seeing so much of OSU's more recent history in bright color makes more of an impact and it therefore seems to give the whole documentary a slant.

It also confirms that tsun's glory days were in the early 20th century.

My favorite part of the documentary was how much more time was spent showing how fanatic and devoted Ohio State fans were while spending relatively few time on Michigan fans... other than to point out their historical and continuing reputation for arrogance.

Anyone who would root for tsun couldn't be my brother anyway so I think I could deal with it. I'd just pretend he died as a baby or something.

Great show.......

I loved watching that show and seeing how the rivalry started and the history behind it. I especially liked it when Bo said he had a "few" pair of the gold pant charms but would never say that at Michigan.......

I alsoliked seeing the infamous snow bowl game. Granted I wasn't even close to being around but I do remember a few bad snow storms living in Lancaster and Columbus .....

All in all a good show and I liked how they showed the relationship between Woddy and Bo....good show and a must for any buckeye fan........

This is where I grew up, about a mile south of the M*ch*g*n border. It tears apart families and friendships. My mother and I are Ohio State fans, my dad and brother are M*ch*g*n fans, and growing up my friends were split 50-50.

On gameday, if you can't be in Columbus or Whoretown, the Border towns are the best places to be. You'll see people holding flags out of car windows and honking their horns, just to get the attention of every losing fan within sight.

Anyone who has come back to Ohio from M*ch*g*n Stadium after a Buckeye win on 23 has seen the Ohio State fans standing at the border welcoming back the team and fans.

thought it was a great for what it was. my only issues were that they tried to accentuate the characterization of the Ohio state fans as unsophisticated hill-jack farmers (although they correctly portrayed the TSUN fans as elitist country club fairies).

I thought it would have been neat to play clips of player comments trash talking in interviews over the years, maybe some of the coaches pre-game speeches, maybe some more time about rivalry from the post woody era.

all-in-all pretty solid documentary

I saw that part and I was dumbfounded that they didn't cancel that game or at least move it to the next day. It looked like a Keystone Kops movie clip out on that field!

They wanted to move it to the next week but the Michigan coach threatened not to show up the next week so they played. I thought it was amazing that 50,000 fans showed up to watch. Best damn fans in the land.

I have heard/read many times that that 50K attendance figure was heavily inflated and a total guess. They weren't even taking tickets at the gate, anyone who did show up just came in and sat down.

There is a picture of the north end of the Shoe during the Snow Bowl in Jack Parks OSU Encyclopedia, it sure doesn't look 50Kish to me but I'm terrible at judging crowd sizes.

Huh, I wonder what possible advantage the tSUN coach thought the playing in the snow would give him. And yes, the amount of people who ended up snow covered mounds with heads was impressive!

hm, with a touch of googling, it appears it was the Ohio athletic director who made the decision to play.

for me, the best part was the dead schembechlers guy at the beginning comparing the game to christmas. "take that feeling and multilply it by 1,000,000" that's why i haven't slept the friday before since i was a little kid. FWIW, don't worry about the HBO rerun schedule, its on HBO on demand now.
