Game Thread THE GAME, 11/26/16, 12pm ET, ABC

Coaches have to rely on there coaches in the upstairs box to tell them if they should question a call. Head coaches are too far away from the spot most times.
Hairball should have challenged the spot (if he could still).
The line refs early indication was a first down. But it should have been measured by chains.
It was looked at by replay and a decision was quick to announce a first down.
Case closed.

Overtime rules?

The way I've seen/heard it explained is this:
The tip of the ball is placed at the 25 yd line in Over Time; therefore, the line-to-gain is the 15 yd line. Hence, no real need for the chains.
yeah....it's not a rule that you don't measure in OT. it's just that you literally do not need to measure for the first first down of OT. it's pointless....there are lines on the field showing you exactly to the micrometer of where the ball needs to be.

I agree that because the ball started where it started, which would be the same as when spotting a touch-back, no measurement is needed. In fact, it would be more likely that the chains were off somehow. I remember an NFL game where the following happened:

Ball spotted, chains brought out, measurement reveals it's 3rd and inches.
Line up to play... false start Offense... ball moved back 5 yards....
Line up to play.... offside Defense.. ball moved forward 5 yards...

Now... it's 3rd and inches right?

Wrong... measurement... First down.

Edit - I realize it wasn't the chains that were off in this case, it was the ref spotting the ball, just sayin...

This picture is already iconic. I was thinking---what's the best single picture from a game in program history?
