Game Thread THE GAME, 11/26/16, 12pm ET, ABC

Finally got to rewatch the game. Funny that, since I knew the outcome, it really didn't feel like it was as one sided as it did live. Watching it live it felt to me like they dominated the first 3/4 of the game and OSU came on right at the end. In rewatching it didn't feel that it quite that unbalanced. Things I noticed (or didn't feel like I realized/remembered from live):

1. I didn't realize that Raekwon actually hit Speight's hand as he released causing that INT. There goes the excuse that UM "gave" OSU 7 points there.

2. UM fans say the refs were in the bag for OSU but they correctly called a hands to the face penalty on OSU as the 1st half was winding down which gave UM the ball on the 1 or 2 yard line first and goal. They scored on 3rd down. Without that penalty (because they should have ignored it if they were that biased) they would have had to go a few yards more and have one less down. Not sure that they can actually punch it in unless they go for it on 4 downs. Maybe just 3 points.

3. I obviously remembered the easy pick that Peppers got, but forgot that it gave them the short field they essentially needed against OSU to get down to the goal line before they fumbled it away. Even AFTER they fumbled it away after the INT, OSU didn't make it very hard on them as they only drove a total of 20 yards and turned it over on downs on that fake punt (somehow I didn't remember these events in succession), which isn't included in the turnover stats but really how is that different than a fumble or an INT? So, sure, UM fumbled on the 1 yard line but they got the ball back a minute or two later and only had to "drive" 20 yards for the touchdown that they "gave away". If they had scored the first touchdown, OSU wouldn't have been starting at the 1 yard line and likely wouldn't have given the ball back with such great field position yet again. So as I count it, OSU scored 14 points off of UM turnovers but UM scored 7 points off of 2 OSU turnovers plus the 2 missed field goals is pretty much a wash.

4. Regarding points 2 and 3: If UM fans want to say OSU wouldn't have scored touchdowns without help, I'm not sure they score one without that penalty call and without the two turnovers from OSU. Defense was great.

5. Baugh made a freaking huge catch at the 5 yard line to set up a CENTERED chip shot field goal to tie it. I haven't heard much praise for him for that.

EDIT:

6. On another point, something that I'm less excited to point out, is that UM doesn't score a touchdown in regulation (and therefore the game) without Peppers. They don't score that touchdown in the closing seconds of the 1st half without his kickoff return. They don't score the second half touchdown without him flipping the field with the interception.

tSUN player #43, Chris Wormly, almost won the game for tSUN by falling down, thereby preventing Alexander from pushing him very far.

Watch Peppers on that play.

Remember when some of us said that moving down into the box would allow much bigger players to block him much more consistently?
