Game Thread THE GAME, 11/25/17 @ 12:00 ET (FOX)

I guess I will put this in this thread. Driving here in Charlotte on I-485 (same as I-270 in C-Bus) and this car comes up besides me and then slows down to match my speed. A young lady is driving and looks over and then gives me the OH sign. She must have seen my license plate and alumni sticker. I ask you in what other university in the world can you be driving over 500 miles from campus and a random person comes up to you and identifies them selves (such as shouting OH) much less driving at 70 miles an hour on the freeway and gives the OH sign. Kind of neat.....GO BUCKS!!!!:io:

I passed a lady with Ohio plates today in the South side of Las Vegas. I yelled O-H and threw up the sign, and she returned with the I-O. It's just how it is. You can yell O-H in any airport on Earth and someone will come back with I-O.

I don't believe that they actually started "coasting" after the first quarter, or at any other time in the game. That's just making the typical excuse that weak-but-boastful boys make, and it's fear talking more than anything else.

"I would have won if I'd tried."
"I didn't even study for that exam."

Which works just fine since we have a coach getting pissed over possible clown show activity against Illinois.

Just layng the groundwork so next year they can claim they actually won the game this year too.

Buckeye Breakdown: The Play That Almost Never Happened

Marcus-Baugh-Touchdown-Michigan-1170x780.jpg

One of the biggest plays on Saturday almost never happened. It wasn’t Austin Mack’s incredible catch in traffic, or a long run by J.K Dobbins or Mike Weber, but rather Marcus Baugh’s touchdown reception from the arm of J.T. Barrett.

After withstanding a first quarter that saw the Buckeyes trailing 14-0, and negative yardage in the stat column, Ohio State began to climb their way back into the game. Late in the second quarter with the Buckeyes threatening the red zone, Ohio State broke tendency by passing on first-and-10.

The play started with an audible from the sideline which moved K.J. Hill from the slot to the backfield, along with Weber.

Slight confusion by Hill and Victor pre-snap prompted Coach Meyer to run down the sideline looking to possibly call a timeout. As Meyer neared the referee, Barrett organized the formation and snapped the ball.

Ten Things We Learned from OSU’s 31-20 Win Over Michigan

1. Dwayne Haskins is a gamer.

Urban Meyer hates the term “gamer” because he doesn’t believe that you can be successful in a game without also being a “practicer.” I’m not saying Dwayne Haskins isn’t a practicer, because he is, but I’m also saying that he’s a gamer. The guy prepared as a backup should all season long, and on Saturday in the biggest game of the year, he performed like a starter. People will say this reminds them of 2014, but it couldn’t be more different. Cardale Jones didn’t take his role as a backup seriously until after the Michigan game. Haskins has taken his role seriously every step of the way. After the game Haskins said he was never nervous. That’s exactly what you want to hear from any player, especially your backup quarterback.

10. Good habits are hard to break.

At this point, it feels like Michigan is not supposed to win this game. The Wolverines are Charlie Brown lining up for the kick and the Buckeyes are Lucy, perpetually ripping wins away from the Wolverines’ foot before the cleat meets leather. This is six-straight wins over Michigan for the Buckeyes. Two wins in a row is an accomplishment. Three wins in a row is a streak. Four wins in a row is special. Five wins in a row is almost criminal. Six wins in a row, however, is habit.

Here in Connecticut I can't leave the house with any Buckeye gear on without getting an "OH" or a "Go Bucks." :oh::io:

Add to that, when JT was under center, the stadium was very loud. I'm not sure how the heck they are able to communicate well enough to get a play off down there. I'll also add, you didn't see our QB bitching about crowd noise either.

Ohio State Football Notebook: ‘Some stuff happened that was a fluke’

Ohio-State-Football-Notebook.jpg

Peddle to the Mettle

Michigan began the game with a 14-0 lead over Ohio State on Saturday. All was well with the Wolverines’ world.

And then the Buckeyes went on a 31-6 run to close the game.

They didn’t so much snatch victory from the jaws of defeat, they just gave Michigan a head start. And then quickly caught up.

According to the Wolverines, however, it wasn’t so much what Ohio State did, but rather what Michigan did.

“The first half, after the first couple of drives, we kind of started to coast a little bit,” said fullback Khalid Hill. “We knew that going into the game we needed to play four quarters. We had to compete the whole four quarters, we just came up short.”

According to Hill, part of the reason why the offense couldn’t maintain its pace was because the Michigan defense couldn’t get off of the field.

“It’s kind of hard to stay hot as an offense when you’re not on the field as much,” he said. “Ohio State did a great job keeping us off the field, because if we got back on the field, we were hot, we would have scored a lot of points I feel like. I think we were in our rhythm. They did a great job of getting first downs and keeping us off the field for so long. That kind of hurts you too because you sit on the bench for so long, you’ve got to get up, and when you’re hot you’re hot, you’re just ready to go.

The Difference

John O’Korn began the season as Michigan’s backup quarterback. He eventually became the starter when Wilton Speight went down. He then lost the job as the team’s starter to Brandon Peters. Once Peters went down, however, the job was handed back to O’Korn. O’Korn really only had one performance this season that was encouraging, and that came against Purdue in his first extended action of the season.

Every other game, however, brought groans from the Michigan fans in attendance.

The frustrating part for Michigan, however, is that they didn’t need O’Korn to be outstanding, they just needed him to be consistent. And that’s exactly what Ohio State got from their backup quarterback Dwayne Haskins. His effectiveness proved to be the difference in this game.

“He did good enough and at the end of the day everything is a threshold,” Winovich said. “You don’t have to be the best player in the world. You don’t have to be a Heisman trophy winner. But if you just do good enough and sell the runs and carry the ball good enough or throw the passes, and that’s what he did.”

Haskins’ performance was a contrast from what most of the Michigan defense expected. Once J.T. Barrett went down with a knee injury, they thought they had the Buckeyes right where they wanted them.

“I don’t want to say you smell blood, and it was a shame to see J.T. get hurt because he’s just a great player and a great competitor, and that’s kind of part of the fun going against J.T. I knew once the backup came in that Ohio State had a knack of having their backups come in and do outstanding. So it’s going to be dangerous,” Winovich said. “They’re loaded at a lot of positions there. He did a great job. Hat’s off to him. I told him after the game that in a way he kind of did beat us. They needed him to step up and he did.”
