Too soon old, too late smart
Somebody tell Day that he doesn't have to win by running the ball! Heck, couldn't do it with Treyvion and Quinshon, and this year's RBs are not of that caliber. Take what the D gives you, and spread them out by flooding the field with WRs. Hopefully the communication between Smith and Tate and Sayin is still 'fresh' and working after the WR layoffs. Rely on the D, and send the house to rattle Underwood. Keep Reese keyed on Underwood, so he cannot squeeze through without getting his helmet rattled (PS, in no way am condoning targeting). Stop the run game, and force Underwood to beat us through the air. Will let our superior DBs overwhelm their WRs, and maybe get 2-3 pick sixes to punctuate the game. 35-9.

1. Michigan is without Justice Haynes
The Wolverines are always elite at running the football, and they are great at it again this season. Even though starter Justice Haynes is out for the season, redshirt freshman Jordan Marshall has stepped up in a big way, running for 871 yards on 143 carries and 10 touchdowns in Haynes’ absence.Marshall did not play against Maryland, but could have played if needed, and is expected to play against Ohio State.
As a group, Michigan has run for 2,458 yards on 440 carries with 32 touchdowns.
2. The Wolverines are young and talented
Not only does Michigan start a true freshman at quarterback in Bryce Underwood, but its starting running back and top rusher Jordan Marshall is a redshirt freshman and top wide receiver Andrew Marsh is a true freshman.Even though they are young, they are incredibly talented and can make plays. They are also prone to the freshman mistake, and the Buckeyes defense has to force them to do that.
3. They stop the run well… again
The big story last season was Ohio State’s insistence on running the ball against a team that excelled at stopping the run, and they are very good at it again this year.The Wolverines come into this game as the second best rushing defense in the conference, giving up only 81.7 points per game. Ohio State is the best rushing defense in the conference, only allowing 80 yards per game. With Haynes out, the Wolverines will turn to Marshall, an Ohio native, to carry the backfield.
4. Ernest Hausmann mysteriously missed the last game
The Wolverines leading tackler and captain on defense Ernest Hausmann did not travel with the team last week to Maryland, and it remains a question as to why. There was no indication of an injury, and the pregame broadcast said that disciplinary reasons were not the reason that he was not there.Earlier in the week, he posted on X about a podcast he was starting, but on Saturday night he posted that he didn’t leave the team.
After the game, Michigan head coach Sherrone Moore said “Yeah, they’re just working through some things, so not long-term things. We’ll see as we go through the week.”

It shouldn’t really impact the game at all.”– Sonny Styles on the cold weather expected in Ann Arbor on Saturday- On the message Ryan Day has shared with the team this week: “I think the biggest message from Coach Day is just sticking to our routine, sticking to our mindset that we come into every game with and what we do and who we are. Obviously, you respect the rivalry, you respect that it’s The Game, and you know how big it is, but you can’t go into the game thinking about the stakes and what’s on the line. You go into the game, you do what you do. Trust your fundamentals, trust your training, and see what happens.”
- On Michigan running back Jordan Marshall: “I think he’s a physical runner. I think a lot of times you get those guys that are a little shorter, he’s pretty muscular, low center of gravity, stuff like that. But I mean, I think all their backs are pretty good. They all do a good job.”
- Styles sees great traits in Michigan quarterback Bryce Underwood: “I think he’s kind of like Nico (Iamaleava) in a way. Obviously, we didn’t get to play him, but we played him last year. … He’s tall, maybe not as tall as Nico, but kind of similar speed, he’s got great arm talent. You got to just be aware of him at all times, got to keep him in the pocket, got to be aware on third downs, seeing him QB run, scrambling, stuff like that.”
- Styles praised Matt Patricia for the game plans he creates for the Buckeyes. “I think every game plan Coach Patricia comes up with is elite. There’s always — everyone understands the game plan. It’s clear. We know what the message is, what we need to stop, what are the musts. I think he’s always kind of planning ahead.”
- On what The Game means to him: “Being a kid from Columbus, knowing how big it is and how everyone’s watching, how cool it is to be in the moment. But I think at the end of the day you gotta go out there — it’s a game. You gotta do what you do. Like I said, trust your training.”

- Downs said the Michigan game carries weight in the Woody Hayes Athletic Center. Still, he wants to beat the Wolverines just like every other opponent on Ohio State’s schedule. “I want to win every game, and that’s how I play football. But I want to win and I want to win every play, win every snap possible. That’s what we’re gonna do.”
- When asked about Matt Patricia’s game plan for Bryce Underwood, Downs said the Michigan freshman quarterback has “played at an elite level the whole year.” Downs said Patricia has “a lot of experience” but Underwood is “going to be a challenge either way.”
- On how extensive Patricia’s game plan can be: “I’m assuming in his 10, 20, 30-year career, he has some stuff in the bag. I mean, he has some tricks in the bag left. … He’s got a lot of binders and stuff that he could pull out.”
- Downs said the key for Ohio State this week is “staying consistent.” He added, “We’ve been talking about it all year. It doesn’t matter who we play. Just go out and prepare and put yourself in a position to play well on Saturday. We’re just trying to prepare and put ourselves in the best position.”
LT Austin Siereveld
“Yeah, I love it. Cold, windy, snow, whatever it is. It’s gonna be a challenge for us. We’re ready and we’ll be prepared for it.”– Austin Siereveld on the cold weather expected in Ann Arbor on Saturday- “As a left tackle, you protect the blind spot of the quarterback, and especially this week, being on the road, being on the silent count with the edge rushers they have is gonna be a challenge for us.”
- Siereveld said Julian Sayin has “been growing each week, getting better.” Siereveld said this is Sayin’s offense and “he’s running the show.” He said Sayin knows what to do in the huddle and how to keep the chains moving.
- Siereveld said it’s “very important” for Ohio State to win its first pair of Gold Pants since 2019. “We just gotta go out and play.”
- Siereveld said Ohio State’s offensive line knows how important it is to run the ball in The Game and is excited for the challenge of blocking Michigan’s defensive front. “We know what the deal is. We gotta be able to run the ball in these types of games and we’ve been practicing for this.”
- Siereveld said Ohio State’s coaches and players “gotta control our emotions” in The Game. “We can’t let one play and a penalty affect us. One play can hurt you a lot and hurt a drive and all that stuff. We just gotta be under control.”

Jeremiah Smith hates That Team Up North, Sonny Styles calls The Game the greatest rivalry in sports and Mirror Lake Jumps looked like a lot of fun.
TEAR IT DOWN! OK, OK, I know I just made a big deal about respect and whatnot. However, it’s tradition for me this week to watch the video of Ohio State tearing down Michigan’s sacred M Club banner in 1973.
I will forever chuckle at Bob Ufer’s completely over-the-top reaction:
I want Ohio State to prepare for and win The Game with class. But I’ll admit: there’s a small part of me that would love to see the Buckeyes run out of the tunnel on Saturday and tear down the banner again, 52 years later. To do that and then pummel the Wolverines in their own stadium? Oh, man, that would make up for the flag planting tenfold.

Ryan Day drops latest hint on the injury status of Ohio State’s Jeremiah Smith and Carnell Tate ahead of the Michigan game
We’re just a couple of days away from the rivalry game and Ryan Day has the latest update on Ohio State’s stars.It’s Thanksgiving Day, and we’re just two days away from the rivalry matchup between the Ohio State Buckeyes and the Michigan Wolverines.
It’ll be the Buckeyes traveling north to Ann Arbor with an 11-0 record, looking to solidify their spot in the Big Ten Championship Game. Ohio State is also aiming to end a four-game losing streak against the Wolverines. All week, the focus has been on the health of Ohio State’s two star wideouts.
Day was asked to provide an update on Wednesday evening, and his response was interesting.
“No,” Coach Day said with a laugh. “But we did have a good day. Everybody was out there. We’ll see how the next 48 hours go.”
Day revealing that everyone was at practice — including Smith and Tate — is a positive development for the Buckeyes. It’s sounding more and more like Ohio State could be facing a game-time decision with at least Tate, who is trying to return after missing the last three games. The junior wideout felt tightness in his lower half prior to the Purdue game in early November and hasn’t played since.
