Game Thread THE GAME: #1 Ohio State 42, #2 Michigan 39 (11/18/06)

Let's stop the Michigan-Ohio St. rematch nonsense
November 14, 2006

Now the talk is of a rematch. They haven't even played the thing yet, and already everyone wants to know why Ohio State and Michigan just can't play it again.

I have a couple of problems with this national title game rematch talk:
1. What if they split? Who then becomes the national champion -- or do they split that, too? I've heard the argument that it has happened before, when Florida beat Florida State in a rematch in 1996 and won the title. Nice try, people. That wasn't the BCS; so let's stop that nonsense right now.
2. I'm not sure these are the two best teams, anyway. What we have are two teams with the two best wins of the season: Ohio State at Texas and Michigan at Notre Dame. On the surface, very impressive. Yet, the underlying issue is the Big Ten blows. Winning one big non-conference game and skipping through seven league games does not a heavyweight make. Or something like that.
I have no beef with Michigan and Ohio State as the top two teams in the polls. My point is this: There are at least four or five other teams that can beat either one of these teams. This isn't like last season when USC and Texas were clearly the nation's best teams.
Here's a nightmare scenario: what if Saturday's game is a blowout -- doesn't matter who wins -- and USC, Arkansas, Notre Dame, Florida and Rutgers all lose over the next three weeks? Still want that rematch?
And if Saturday's game is a classic and the nightmare scenario plays out? I'm still not giving in. At some point, the BCS has to be tweaked so only teams who win their conference championship are eligible for the national title game.
The winner Saturday moves on, the loser goes to the Rose Bowl. Not a bad consolation prize. But please, let's stop this rematch garbage.

Tsun's DB's are weak. We'll line up 5 wide on the first play from scrimmage, and they won't know wtf to do with 5 receivers that would ALL start for them. I expect another 400 yarder for Troy run/pass.

Many folks think this one will be close. I don't. This one will only be close for the first half, and I seriously think tsun will not be able to put up much more than a dozen points. We are much more balanced and playing at home.

tOSU - 34
tsun - 10

There has beena lot of talk about Lamar Woodley and Mich.front seven .. after the Game, with Henne's lack of mobility the national media may fall in love with Vern Gholston. Mich will worry about our tackles and 'Lil Animal' leaving Vern to wreck scums title hopes.

How do they get paid for writing this drivel? Texas CLEARLY the best team? Sorry bud, the bucks beat down the horns 3 out of 4 quarters last year. There isn't a single team that could beat either of these teams this season on a neutral field with a roof. What a moron.

Yes Texas beat 2 of the three best BCS teams both games essentially on the road.

Yeah, tOSU did play well, at home, and not when it mattered most (4th Q).

Wow, what a homer. :osu:

Tressel went anti Tressel and didn't ground out the ball and kick the FG late in that game. Instead he threw twice and they coughed up the ball.

That being said they probably gave Texas more trouble than USC did.

I agree uOFm and tOSU are the two best teams by far, and probably will rematch because I think ND, Fla, and USC will drop another game and Ark and Rutgers either don't deserve it or have too far to climb.

:slappy: at Chris Perry.

Funny thing is that he's been a bust as an NFL player, but if he rushes for 100 more yards, he'll likely have the most yards of any scUM RB in the NFL.

Anthony "pull A Train on my ass please" Thomas currently leads all scUM NFL RB's with 243 yards for the season.

Perry is at 47 yards for the year.

If we play 5 wide then they can only have a front 6 can't they. Unless they try to cover Gonzo with a LB. or Robo  or Small.
I like those matchups. Bucks 24 M 14

Yes but then you only have 5 to deal with Woodley, Branch, etc and no back or TE to help and little threat of a run (besides QB draw)

As long as the WR's and QB recognize the defense the same way you just hit a quick pass and make them play in space.

As long as we attack them in such a way as to emphasize our edge in athleticisim and speed while negating their advantage is size and power we'll be fine.

Does this Michigan game feel different?

Tressel answered a press question about the higher stakes in this
year's game by saying that it's about the game itself, completely
apart from the rankings and the national championship implications.
And I find myself thinking - or feeling - that he is right: I don't
think I feel any more or less anxious about this year's game than
other years (at least in the Tressel era). What do you folks think?
Does it really feel different this year? Do you feel the larger
implications or do you focus on the game itself?
