Someone, anyone pleas explain to me how when we lost to Texas last year we dropped to.........what...9th?
Michigan loses and the don't drop?
Overly simplistic?
This is what caused all the problems.
If scUM drops after losing to us do we still hear all the whining and wailing?
That is of course at a different time in the season, one with inherently more volatility.
Nonetheless, your point has some merit. That loss, albeit on home turf was narrow. The game was decided late, unlike the contest versus TSUN.
There is of course the other side of the argument, which is that Michigan lost by 3, on the road, in an emotionally charged game that is always viewed as a gut-check. One for all the marbles.
Should TSUN drop precipitously? Probably not, and in truth they have not done so.
Should Ohio State have dropped precipitously? Probably not either, and had the Texas game been played on the first weekend of November they likely would not have done so - for poll inertia would have been built in, even figuring an identical result. (Which, with that dateline scenario is highly debatable).
As it turned out, despite a later loss on the road to Penn State that Ohio State team still worked its way up in the rankings. Finishing out the campaign with the big Fiesta Bowl victory vs ND.
They were fairly ranked at the end.
If TSUN takes care of business in the Rose Bowl game they also will be fairly ranked at the end of this season.
