Kids working in group reading "pods" (as designed by the SC Dept of Education) with guided questions...a debate flares up so I check in...

A 9th grader is seriously arguing that at the horizon's edge, there is a huge waterfall...

Kid tells me I'm wrong when I explain the horizon and the Earth's curvature...point it out on a map...show him the globe...not buying it.

Yet, I am held "accountable" by "No Child Left Behind."

The Earth is flat...in 9th grade.

Could be worse...a girl I'm seeing teaches kindergarten and she has a student who doesn't know how to write his name or pick out colors (they checked for colorblindness) but she has to send him on because he's nearly 8 years old.
