The Future of this Country

Serious here...just happened...

Reading "The Odyssey" in class....

Kids working in group reading "pods" (as designed by the SC Dept of Education) with guided questions...a debate flares up so I check in...

A 9th grader is seriously arguing that at the horizon's edge, there is a huge waterfall...

Kid tells me I'm wrong when I explain the horizon and the Earth's curvature...point it out on a map...show him the globe...not buying it.

Yet, I am held "accountable" by "No Child Left Behind."

The Earth is flat...in 9th grade.

Damn.

OK. Fine. I fell off the edge of the Earth years ago. There. Happy? Let me just say this. We have air conditioning and color television down here. Oh, and the internet too.

And no Michigan fans. They fall farther.

And 6,000 years old:crazy: .

Oh well, let these kids parents fill their heads full of nonsense. It's just that many fewer kids to compete with mine for college admissions.
Or an entire world magically learning to do millions upon millions of things perfectly, and in unison, just cuz it had long enough

Could be worse...a girl I'm seeing teaches kindergarten and she has a student who doesn't know how to write his name or pick out colors (they checked for colorblindness) but she has to send him on because he's nearly 8 years old.
