The BPRT - New Year's Candid Conversation

OL Seantrel Henderson - Still OSU vs. USC ... I just can't see us beating the Trojans for a top national recruit ... I disagree with Mr. Red here... I think distance becomes a factor in the final decision, and I think tOSU set the bar very, very high here... JT still has his in-home, and is very good with the parents... I look for Henderson to be a Buckeye on signing day... Gut is saying Buckeye. Hopefully the Walker Ashley curse is reversed. I still like OSU's chances...Minnesota has all but fallen out of the conversation and I don't see him heading to ND...makes it a three team race between OSU, USC and [believe it or not] Miami...and I think OSU still has to be considered the favorite.

OL Matt James - Ohio State, with Notre Dame trying to catch up, and Cincinnati fading fast ... tOSU seems to be slightly moving ahead here, but James will take his time and give this decision his due diligence... Who Brian Kelly hires as an OL coach will go a long way towards helping James out with his decision... If I was forced, I say ND in the end... Still have a hard time getting past early intel on this one. If he ends up in Columbus, it will be a pleasant surprise. Despite OSU being the slight leader at this time, I agree who ND hires to be their next OL coach (Ed Warinner?) will play a big part. Still can't see him passing on the ND offer.

OL Sklyer Schofner - Has never been a serious candidate for a Buckeye offer, and I don't see that changing before NLOID ... No offer could indicate how staff feels with both James and Henderson... Or it could just mean they don't think he's worthy... Either way I don't see him getting one and being in this class... Not sure of serious interest on either side. Sticks with Michigan State regardless of what happens.

WR James Louis - Sometimes he sounds like he's looking around, somtimes he sounds solid to Ohio State ... if nothing else, this will keep us interested until Signing Day ... I've never been one worried about James signing on with tOSU... I think he's a Buckeye without question... Don't think the door is open at Florida right now unless some things fall through. Buckeye. Would be shocked if he doesn't at least take a visit or two but I think he signs with OSU.

DT Sharrif Floyd - Ohio State has been leading for a long time, but we've seen SEC teams pull out late victories for kids like this, and guess who's lurking around? Expect an announcement for Florida on Saturday ... I still expect Floyd to be a Buckeye this Saturday... There's a little UF smoke right now, but the kid knows everyone's had him pegged to tOSU for awhile now, so it could just be to keep people guessing.... Losing Charlie Strong is big. Buckeye stability is a strong selling point...but so much smoke about UF. Just a guess, but likely a Gator. I've seen this show before...and it rarely ends well for JT. I still think he picks OSU but I am prepared to be disappointed.

DT Johnathon Hankins - Seems like Ohio State has pulled away from Michigan ... should be a Buckeye soon ... Should be a Buckeye by this weekend... Buckeye. Buckeye...despite anything Tom Beaver says.

LB Jordan Hicks - Florida's unstable coaching situation has probably doomed them, but Texas is as strong as ever ... can JT pull this one out in the bottom of the ninth? ... JT's in-home will be huge... I say Texas leads with tOSU and UF slightly behind... Shocked if he stays in Ohio. I am sticking with Muschamp to wrap this up during his in-home this week.

DB Joshua Shaw - No reason to believe that he'll bail on Florida ... or if he does, that Ohio State will be back in the picture ... He's set to enroll at UF this week, so I doubt there's anything for us here... Gators. All Florida.

DB Christian Bryant - Buckeye ... Like Glenville kids before him, he'll take his visits and be a Buckeye in the end... Christian shocks the world by...committing to Ohio State. 100% Buckeye.

DB Latwan Anderson - Should announce for Ohio State on Saturday ... I don't think he's going to announce this weekend, but you can bet he'll be a Buckeye despite public statements on his leaders... If the grades stay right, Buckeye. Ginn, Sr. wouldn't go to bat for a kid just to let him show up OSU...have to think he is a Buckeye, whether it is this weekend (which I think it will be) or later...as long as his grades are in order.

DB Bradley Roby - Currently committed to Vanderbilt, but he is looking around ... after a recent offer from the Buckeyes, he has Ohio State as his #2 behind Vandy ... if he visits, there's a good chance that he becomes yet another last minute "find" for Tressel ... I like this kid a lot... Came to camp and really impressed... Has an official set up for this coming weekend... Could be good news to follow... The Heywards have been working this one hard... No idea here but the visit speaks volumes. Add in a Rose Bowl victory and you might have a winner this weekend. Like I said about Hankins before...get back to me after he visits.

ATH Dominique Brown - Another "Mr. X" who emerged late in the season ... a UC de-commit who is scheduled to visit OSU this weekend, which should seal the deal ... I think he'll take at least one more visit after his tOSU one (GT maybe?)... Has to decide if he wants to be a QB or something else... If it's something else, bet on the Buckeyes... Buckeye if the numbers allow.[/I] I think this ship is starting to pull away from the docks...would not surprise me to see him stick with Cincinnati.

:osu: The Ohio State Class of 2010 :osu:
QB Taylor Graham (Wheaton, Illinois)
RB Roderick Smith (Fort Wayne, Indiana)
RB Carlos Hyde (Naples, Florida)
WR Tyrone Williams (East Cleveland, Ohio)
WR James Louis (Delray Beach, Florida)
OL Andrew Norwell (Cincinnati, Ohio)
DT Johnathon Hankins (Detroit, Michigan)
DL Darryl Baldwin (Solon, Ohio)
DE J.T. Moore (Boardman, Ohio)
DE David Durham (Charlotte, North Carolina)
DE Jamel Turner (Youngstown, Ohio)
LB Scott McVey (Cleveland, Ohio)
ATH Chad Hagan (Canonsburg, Pennsylvania)
ATH Corey Brown (Springfield, Pennsylvania)
ATH Verlon Reed (Columbus, Ohio)
PK Drew Basil (Chillicothe, Ohio)

Still no reason to get super excited by this class, as there are no real stars outside of Norwell ... Hicks, Henderson, and Floyd could change all that in a hurry, but I don't see any of them ending up in Columbus right now ... lots of "sleepers" who could really develop down the road, kids like Moore, Durham, and Reed, along with Roby and Dominique Brown if they hop on board

Potential for a big finish exists... Floyd, Henderson, James, Hicks, Bryant, and Anderson dot a lot of teams' wishlists and would add some punch to this class... We've got a few playmakers on offense and a stud OL, and some very good quality defenders... But finishing with 4-5 of the above list would be HUGE...

A class that ends with Anderson and Bryant is strong. Add in either of the three bigs, of which I think OSU likely gets one or two [most likely being Henderson then Floyd] and it is a very strong class. Toss in either Roby or Hicks and now you are talking about a special class.

Mr. Red is a very negative person:) Thanks for the updates. Now I won't have to keep on going back and forth to their recruiting thread. You guys must have written this before yesterday because Hankins is a Buckeye:biggrin2:

Great insider info & opinions as always, but I take minor issue with this negative summary:

Still no reason to get super excited by this class, as there are no real stars outside of Norwell ... Obviously this isn't a top-3 national class filled with 5-stars, but I think guys like Turner and Smith and Louis (at least) are in the "real stars" category with Norwell, even if they are "only" 4-stars.

Mr. Red is quite the pessimist-I like this class a lot, will like it a lot more if we can snag Bryant,Floyd, and Henderson. Brown,Louis, and Williams seem to be sold short talent wise by a lot of Buckeye fans for some reason-I think they should all be very good players barring injuries/off field scrapes. Also, Roderick Smith is a stud-as good as any RB in the country this year-admittedly not the strongest national RB class overall,IMO.
Defensively, yes, the class is pretty much all "sleepers", although I think Durham will be a huge steal when all is said and done, and all McVey does is tackle everything in sight-Ignatius kids rarely fail to live up to expectations in college.

Thanks to the BPRT for the update. I was wondering if there might be a current summary on recruiting somewhere on BP... Imagine that, it was on the front page!

Well, Mr. Red may offer a negative conclusion, but reality isn't always a perfect shade of scarlet. I understand the value of attempting to see the positive side of all things Buckeye, but "candid" discussion is most useful.

Opinions about the overall quality of this class seem to hinge on the success of tOSU landing some top recruits on Feb. 3. To what extent is the sky falling if the Bucks do not secure letters from any of the top three or four players on the board?
