Noteworthy that the National Institute of Health and NFL will not continue their research relationship for CTE after the end of next week.
NIH says that NFL refused to fund research by someone that NFL viewed as hostile, and that NFL tried to influence the outcome of the research favorably.
Apparently, NFL only paid $12 million of the total of $30 million that they pledged to NIH five years ago.
I love this game but, if it really is causing this damage to players, then maybe the way forward is to limit players to a number of years in the pros (maybe 3). In three years time, most players would be able to put away enough money to get a good start in life. As an example, if Zeke takes his $20 million for the first three years and invests it wisely, his options in life would be excellent.
We've seen enough to know that people are really damaged. Aaron Hernandez is an example of what happens. I don't like controls, but there needs to be limits and helmet modifications really haven't done much to sort this out.
