The Basketball Tournament (Carmen's Crew = 2019 and 2024 Champions)

Purdue’s team goes down to “Friday Beers”. Who feature Rusty Ranks Beers (ok he’s on the end of the bench, but still)

If you aren’t familiar with Rusty, he’s a goofy college kid that drinks a case and ranks his thoughts.

Example below.

This tournament is so ridiculous.

Former Ohio State players for Carmen's Crew include forward Kyle Young, guard Andre Wesson, center Kaleb Wesson, guard Keyshawn Woods and forward Evan Ravenel. They are joined by four alumni of other programs including former Bowling Green forward Scott Thomas, former Boston College forward CJ Penha, former Fairmont State guard Jamel Morris and former East Tennessee State guard Desonta Bradford.

Carmen's Crew's head coach, former Ohio State forward Jared Sullinger, announced in a team press release that more players will be added to the roster before the tournament starts.

Carmen's Crew will play in the Dayton Regional, set to take place at University of Dayton Arena. They'll be the No. 3 seed in the eight-team region, playing sixth-seeded Purple Hearts in the first round on July 20 at 7 p.m. Big Ten Network will broadcast the game.

Should Carmen's Crew make it past Purple Hearts it will play the winner of Red Scare and DaGuys STL, the former being Dayton's alumni team, on July 22 at 8 p.m. on FS2. The Dayton Regional Championship Game is on July 24 should the OSU alums and company get through the second round, followed by the TBT quarterfinals on July 29 or 30, semifinals on Aug. 2 and championship game on Aug.

GUARD SCOTT THOMAS EAGER TO REPRESENT OHIO STATE IN THE BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT, SAYS EXPERIENCE VALUABLE FOR 2024 CARMEN'S CREW SQUAD

It’s year two of a reconstructed Carmen’s Crew.

Under the guidance of head coach Jared Sullinger, Ohio State’s The Basketball Tournament alumni squad reached the final 16 teams of the 64-team, single-elimination, million-dollar tourney before falling to team Friday Beers in the Sweet 16.

While last year featured a mostly new squad after a tournament off in 2022, many of the same names from 2023 are back for another go-round in 2024. Many players listed on Carmen’s Crew’s roster also know each other from various Summer Leagues and open gyms.

Couple that with some of the talent on the roster assembled and forward Scott Thomas believes he and his teammates could make more noise in 2024 than in 2023.

“I think our chemistry is huge, we play together in the summers all the time,” Thomas told Eleven Warriors. “I think that having a year of experience together with the quote-unquote ‘New’ Carmen’s team from the previous years has been huge. I think any time you get guys that have played together multiple years, you start building a foundation, you start building a little rhythm with guys.”

Former Ohio State basketball player Jared Sullinger will play for Carmen's Crew

Sullinger is still playing basketball overseas. He played five seasons in the NBA and has played in leagues overseas ever since. He played in The Basketball Tournament once before and had been the coach of the team for each of the last few years that it was operational.

Now, Sullinger has committed to playing for the team. This might be because he's no longer playing in China and his contract doesn't prohibit him from doing so. Sullinger won't be playing with any of his former teammates this time as he is one of the older members of the team.

The other former Ohio State basketball players that he will be playing with are Kyle Young, Andrew Wesson, Kaleb Wesson, and Keyshawn Woods. Guys like William Buford, Jon Diebler, and Aaron Craft have opted not to play in this year's version of Carmen's Crew.

Sweet to see Suley back. Looks like he's lost a step or two from his NBA days, but plenty to shine at the TBT. He and Kyle should be a great pair under the hoop. Thought Kellog was going to coach, but didn't see him on the bench. Also, looks like the 'other guys' on CarXen's Crew were the 'fresh legs' needed. Also had the 3-point range maybe missing? As always, enjoyed watching the Wesson boys (Columbus born and bred) tearing it up. Go Bucks!
