After a week off, the Ohio State alumni basketball team known as Carmen’s Crew is preparing to make the jaunt to Chicago for the quarterfinals of TBT (The Basketball Tournament). And we now know who Aaron Craft, Jon Deibler, David Lighty and company will face.
It’s not an easy one folks, but it never is when your competing for a winner-take-all $2 Million prize. There’s only eight teams left, so the road was bound to get bumpier along the way.
And now, the team will take on a squad that finished runner-up to four-time defending champion Overseas Elite in last year’s tournament, Eberlein Drive.
To be fair, the game against Overseas Elite last year wasn’t a nip and tuck affair (70-58), but the fact that Eberlien Drive made it all the way to the finals means it’s a team that is built for the long-haul. In fact, the team has three former NBA players mixed in with some European pros.
Eberlein Drive came out of the Salt Lake Regional where it was the No. 1 seed, but it was a battle. The team needed a three-pointer with the score tied at 80 against Team Utah in its second-round matchup. It then clinched the region on a comeback in the Elam ending to punch its ticket to Chicago against Team ALS.
Meanwhile, Carmen’s Crew’s journey has been a little less challenging. It has won each of its contests by double-digits after running away in the second half. It beat Illinois BC 88-71, then disposed of Big X 89-75, before taking care of Red Scare 85-71.
The game is set for Thursday at 7PM. If you are so inclined, you can purchase tickets here.
