I would like to apologize for a southerner not know about dotting of the i. I thought everyone knew that. I'm from New Orelans and have known about the tradition since if was 7. I was curious about the Buckeye Band though? Do you have a dance line that goes with the band? I don't mean cheerleaders. I am talking about a counter part to the LSU Golden Girls [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d5CpCoCBLPU]YouTube - LSU Tigerama LSU Pregame Touchdown for LSU Golden Girls[/ame]

Geauxtiger-

We very proudly have no auxiliary groups along with the band... just the band itself and the drum major (which pioneered the entire "show drum major" concept among Big 10 bands). Generally, the drum major is the only twirling show type thing, and that's a good thing.

So, we have no flags, no dancing girls (dance team, whatever... calling them dancing girls is just funnier) and no auxiliary percussion, rifles, or such. Everyone is marching (besides the 33 alternates, who march pregame in a bowl situation but not halftime, except for occasional prop work).

The SEC bands are much faster than those in other conferences.

Nice. Although I'm not sure that LSU routinely marches at 180 beats per minute (the tempo of Ohio State's pregame show). Buckeye Battle Cry and Fight The Team Across the Field are pretty fast... Le Regiment (for Script Ohio) is at 144 beats per minute.

(yes, we do march to a metronome to practice these things... it's fricking annoying, and 180 bpm while playing very loudly and doing a chair step sucks.)

Not to mention that tryouts have been described as more difficult than basic training.

I do not think the Ohio State band will be taking the next hill anytime; this may be a exaggeration.

I think you can count on the Golden Band to put on a good show...

Well...that might be stretching it a little. :) But they are difficult.

geauxtiger, the reason there isn't a counterpart to your dance line is that the OSUMB has its roots as a military band.

No we dont, but if we could put together a line that looked that good, I would be up for breaking tradition.

Do the girls do more if they are on a field? This was nice, fun to watch, but really, to be honest, all they did was synchronized arm swinging. Not much dancing on the dance line going on.
