The 2020 College Football Season

An unheard of pandemic in any of our lifetimes wrapped around a mega billion dollar industry. Yeah...it's simple. OOC games apparently come wrapped in germs, whereas we all know that if you stay in your conference...sterile as can be.

Ohio State traveling to Oregon? You fool, you'll kill us all.
Cal traveling to Oregon? That's fine....Pac12ers have built up an immunity to each other.
Ohio State traveling to Penn St? You might catch a case of being molested as a child....but the PA COVID isn't contagious to Ohioans (unless you're from the MAC).

I can see air travel adding to the threat of exposure, but it wouldn't solve the bigger issue of campuses and half the team getting sick at any one time.

No matter what conferences do, you'll likely see 40 man teams vs 70 man teams and it'll be hard to have a consistent season even if they shorted the schedule.

IMO, if they go forward with the schedule as is it's not great because I'd rather at least get enough conference games in asap to declare a champ, but they can always split the season between fall and spring to at least finish it.

Don’t ever forget things could’ve been done, but they couldn’t figure it out as a group.

Will likely be moved to spring sport. So I wonder who starts for OSU at QB? A true Frosh most likely. Fields will not play.

Honestly, even if they adjust the schedule it's quite possible Fields would sit out anyway, or maybe get sick, or god knows what. Everyone will be in the same half-sunk boat if it's moved so starting a freshman would suck but it won't be like OSU is the only team that will have to do it.

No way is college football going to be moved to the spring. If we can get the conference to play the in-conference games that are already on the schedule from Oct 3rd onward, the season could be salvageable.

move said it a million times, OOC games need to be cancelled now and then come up with an inter-league schedule of 8 games. Done.
It's intra-league, but I have to agree mostly with your point here. I was holding out hope for the OOC portion of the schedule (especially the Oregon trip), but I think that's just not going to happen now. The only potential problem with the in-conference only schedule is that if we start from Oct 3rd onward, Maryland would have nine games from Oct 3rd onward, since their bye week is Sep 26th, while everyone else in the East Division has their bye week on or after Oct 3rd and thus have only eight games. If Rutgers decides to not play this season, that could mess things up even further.

Can't imagine CFB ever being moved to spring. Would make no sense - NFL won't move back their draft, they are on their schedule and everyone else will have to adjust to it.

So what are you doing - suiting up in January to get a season in before the draft/visits/combine? It won't happen, the weather won't permit it in half the country (if not more), and who is going to risk injury before the draft?

Either keep it in the fall or scrap the year all together, it sucks to say that but moving a full season on the mass scale that is college football combined with the unpredictability of the pandemic will not happen.

I don’t know if it would’ve saved season, but it’d have bought them an entire extra month, and ability to get creative in each conference on how to approach season.

Because they couldn’t be bothered to get in front of this, and instead sat back and hoped they’d get lucky, the entire season is going to be cancelled.
