That's a Man, Baby: South African Runner Gender Tested

I think the issue involves a possible chromosomal abnormality, JO. She is physically female and no one has disputed that.

People here are not angry because this issue was raised. After all, it was raised here last year and resolved to the satisfaction of the local sports authorities.

The anger here is due to the undignified way in which this has been handled by the IAAF. Instead of noting a complaint and its originator, supporting the athlete until proven otherwise, and getting on with testing. They indicate that a complaint has been made, refuse to identify its source, fail to support the athlete, and then say it is a really complex issue that requires all kinds of tests. This is silly. For instance, they say psychological tests are needed? So, does that mean if a homosexual female feels "identifies more as a male than female" she cannot run?

Check out the woman behind Clark whose surname begins with a K. She look very feminine to you? Does Semenya really look anymore masculine than her?

Today, the leader of a political party called for a legal suit to be filed against the IAAF over their handling of this matter and impairing the dignity and privacy of Semenya. I hope the IAAF will handle this matter quickly and bring it to resolution.

South Africa plans to lodge a complaint with the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights over the gender test ordered on middle-distance runner Caster Semenya, officials said on Friday.

The Portfolio Committee on Sport and Recreation said the commissioner needed to investigate the "gross and severe undermining of rights and privacy" by the International Association of Athletics Federations.

Semenya's gender has been under scrutiny since her arrival in Berlin for the World Athletics Championship where she won a gold medal in the women's 800m.

"The humiliation of Semenya was a sign of sexist action by IAAF as it undermined the achievements of women," sports committee chairperson Butana Komphela said in a statement.

Just did as search in this thread for the phrase "I'd hit it" and got this result:

Given that there have been photos, this should remove all questions about gender.

Not really sound methodology seeing as Jeffcat has been banned.

If he were around and the search resulted in zero "I'd hit it's" then I would concur. Until then its only a theory, not a fact.

BTW does the athlete in question not bear a striking resemblance to Lamar from Revenge of the Nerds or is it just me?

Ruling: Hermaphrodite.

Article said:
South African gold-medallist Semenya, 18, has both male and female organs, it was claimed.

And sources close to the International Association of Athletics Federations ? who ordered extensive tests on the teen after her amazing 800m win at the World Athletics Championships last month ? say the results mean she could still be stripped of her medal.

Semenya is claimed to have NO womb or ovaries ? and has internal testes, the male sexual organs which produce testosterone

The row over Semenya's biology has caused huge divisions ? with South African politicians calling slurs she is a man "racist and sexist." Her birth certificate has the teen listed as female and urine tests showed that, despite her having higher than average male hormone levels, they are within the official limits for a woman

But an IAAF source was today quoted as saying: "There certainly is evidence now that Semenya is a hermaphrodite.
