Texas Tech Red Raiders (sponsored by BET365)

Acting like he’s on fucking methadone coming off of H is too fucking rich.

I’m not going to pretend gambling addiction isn’t real because I definitely know some people that have ruined their lives with it, but god damn…..let’s not pretend like they were plying you with naloxone when you were dying, bro.

You are equating punishment of this guy to deterrence for others and I don't necessarily think that is a true statement.

If people are going to point shave, throw games in this day and age of legalized betting with all the ways they can catch you doing it then I would submit they are going to do it no matter what.

They have nailed guys in the NFL recently for legally gambling on non NFL games. They nailed the Cleveland pitchers. Pete Rose got a lifetime ban, all the other examples that have been thrown around and yet, this guy went and gambled on sports while being an athlete anyway. It seems as though he was not deterred by immediate punishment of other athletes and neither will the next guy be if they ended Sorsby's career yesterday.

The second part of "How can I ever bet on this sport again" is overly dramatic. If the only way you are comfortable placing a bet is on a sport that you think is safe from manipulation, you are better off not betting. Every major sport has had, and will continue to have, betting scandals. You cannot eliminate it so acting like this is some kind of breach of the public trust is a leap Evil Knievel would think twice about.

We are all a little salty at the TT oil baron for gaming the system.

The faux moral outrage over gambling/sports integrity and the like is just theatre.

You neglected to mention players who are deterred from gambling due to potential punishment, but that isn't as easily quantifiable. Maybe I'm missing your point, but I don't think because some people break the rules means they are inconsequential or unneeded. People break laws all the time. Should we just stop having them because they aren't enforced to perfection or have a 100% preventative effect?

And what makes it "faux" moral outrage? I don't understand why you are try to delegitimize people upset that those expected to uphold justice are failing at their duties. Seems like some form of edgy Gen-X apathy that we should all stop caring how corrupt the world is and not push back.

They did nail the guy and the NCAA followed their own rules and suspended him. Then the oil guy bought a friendly local judge. If the legal system can keep on chugging along then I don't see how this is a line in the sand/referendum on the CFB system. How is the integrity of the game (whatever that means) affected?

CFB is innocent, the lawyers fucked them.

People can be mad at that but all the histrionics (not you-what I hear/see in the sports news world) is what's missing the point

At the end of the day, show me a CFB rule that hasn't been violated more than @Thump mom. It's more popular than ever. People on here are all getting older and were raving nut job fans at one point in their lives-maybe we are all just more and more disinterested because we're changing too.

I look and see the legal system continuing on. I see government thriving. So compared to those two institutions, I think something as mildly dysfunctional as CFB is going to be just fine.
What an incredibly bizarre position to take on this situation. "Hey, other people have broken the rules in the past. You should stop caring and let them do it unimpeded"

Fuck Kriby Hocutt. We all know that if this guy were a 3rd string center, he'd be long gone. And maybe TT didn't fund the lawsuit, but your most powerful booster who controls the AD and the board sure as shit did. And while your President my not be doing this because he's Santa Ono and just wants to sniff football player musk, he's sure as shit is playing ball because if he shows any real independent action and integrity, that booster would run him out of west tejas on a rail.

Yep the statement earlier sounded like they were going to pull the old oh he didn't clear rehab and keep from playing but as as it's more and more of it comes out nope that was selectively cut out of a bigger thing to make it look a certain way

You are correct. You are missing the point entirely.

Uphold justice ?

This is big business and politics. You aren't using the right lens to analyze what's going on. Power and self interest. Those are the drivers of behavior. Especially among people at the top of organizations.

You think the UGA athletic director crying that "we need a common set of rules for everyone to follow" is because he really wants to make sure everyone is playing fair? Like little kids on a playground? No, they are acting outraged to then use this as an example of why their original position should be implemented. They want to control the system-have power.

Spare me the millennial social justice angle if you can't even follow the game that is actually being played.
