Texas Longhorns (big hat, no cattle; please don’t Horns Down us)

Gotta believe these unbalanced NIL payments are an issue in many a locker room. I hated doing performance apprailsals back in the day. It was rare to have an employee who agreed with your assesment, and God help you if they found out how others were being rated.
Yeah, I'm not all that bright and I predicted this would happen at the onset of NIL.. As fun as it is for fans and boosters to say why don't they just overbid for a HS player. You're affecting the ecosystem of the locker room when the player currently on the roster finds out about the new incoming freshman making MUCH more than him. Yet he just put his blood, sweat and tears on the field for the team the previous season. I'm sure some delicate conversations are had, but I don't see sustained success for teams constantly touting over paying for every incoming freshman. I think this is where a program like OSU can have continued success, though they will lose on some very highly rated players, they can arrange more complete teams.

Made even worse by the fact you aren't going to get the talent up front if you don't (basically) guarantee the money.

It's one thing for a J Smith to get the most money and then everyone shuts up after the first practice. Its another thing to have a bust that you can't make take a hair cut. Prices will spiral and locker rooms will be a tricky, tricky thing.

Better for everyone once they get to full on employee status-->union--> CBA like other professional sports.

And to make a play on your words, teams are not getting the talent up front. Meaning that they're not getting the full talent/ceiling of the player up front, but they are expected to guarantee a chunk of money to that unproven player. Not sure what could go wrong:bonk:
