Texas Longhorns (big hat, no cattle; please don’t Horns Down us)

a) It's clearly grounding, might even be a backward pass, in which case it's a fumble.
b) If there is roughing, then there should be offsetting penalties - grounding, roughing and you run the play again.
c) This team of officials should be in the FBI's witness protection program.
d) And you thought Big Ten officiating was bad.

a) Grounding, probably. "In the grasp" (if that is a thing, anymore), definitely. Backwards, not at all. It goes forward until hitting the defender's helmet and I think it even goes forward from that point.
b) But the roughing part is the funny part. Any official in the stadium, including all the non-officials who pretend to be officials in the stands, should be able to see that that wasn't roughing the quarterback. As far as targeting, there are times when I think, "That wasn't targeting" when I see it live. But when I watch the replay, I see that it is targeting. So I reserved judgment for the replay, and it still isn't targeting.
c) I wouldn't be surprised to hear they didn't make it out of Austin.
d) I know their job is a lot tougher than mine. I couldn't/wouldn't do it. I think all conferences have officials who give them all a rough reputation.

They're really stretching it to hype this kid. His stats are literally laughable but analysts are using them as an example of dominance

FACT. It’s been smooth-sailing for Manning through two games this season as he has opened the year with wins over 5A Hahnville and rival Riverside Academy. Through two games, Manning has completed 27 of his 36 passes for 363 yards and eight total touchdowns with some of his throws catching the eye of evaluators across the country. His natural arm talent and effortless “flick” has improved from its already strong standing going into his senior season, as he becomes more comfortable with his skill set. On this trajectory, Manning could safely quiet the doubts that he has about not being the top player in the country and can arrive in Austin in January with the No. 1 overall ranking in hand.

Before being flipped over, his lower leg was clearly on the ground:

Would that not make him down by contact with the ball in his hand?

Now that's the best view of the whole thing yet. Texas has a legitimate complaint now that is not just subjective. Thats a safety plain and simple. They could protest but who tf is actually going to listen? No one.

Agreed. I kinda hope they do protest, but it's only because I like hearing other people whine.
The best part of Alabama winning this is Texas losing it. I'd have preferred an Alabama loss, but this is good, too.

Y’all really think that non-safety call was about Bama? Duh. Big 12 crew. Tejas leaving the Big 12. Would it really have mattered who Tejas was playing, so long as it wasn’t a remaking Big 12 school? (Come on, Big 12 officials have to be dignified and not show favoritism to the remaining Big 12 schools.)

During Manning's official recruitment visit to Austin in June, the university spent close to $280,000, according to The Athletic, which obtained receipts and expense invoices with open records requests. The Texas Longhorns spared no expense in their pursuit of No. 1 overall recruit Arch Manning this summer.

Texas rolled out the red carpet for Manning and eight other recruits that included airfare, 5-star hotels, food, desserts, entertainment and an open bar for parents.

Manning, the nephew of Peyton and Eli Manning, verbally committed soon after the visit.

Now, this may seem like a lot of money on its surface, but consider the university is allowed to provide lodging, meals and entertainment for up to four family members per recruit. Nine recruits multipled by four family members each equals 36 guests to host. That's before including school coaches and staff as well. The tab will run up quickly for any school with that many guests.

How Texas spent its money
The Athletic broke down — as much as they could — where and how Texas spent all of the $280,000 that weekend. Here's a breakdown:
  • $21,000 on travel for the recruits and their families that included airfare for those out of state.

  • $46,696 on 34 hotel rooms at the Four Seasons Austin.

  • $17,319.71 on a lunch buffet on Friday.

  • $1,813.74 on custom cakes and other snacks in each recruit's hotel room.

  • $3,359.12 on speaker rentals for photo shoots at Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium and the Moncrief-Neuhaus Athletic Center.

  • $29,129.40 on a dinner buffet at DKR that included flatware rental, drinks and an an ice sculpture.

  • $11,880 on an open bar for the recruits' parents.

  • Another hotel buffet at 2 a.m.

  • $10,226 on a breakfast buffet on Saturday.

  • $9,497.72 on a trip to Top Golf for 75 total guests that included food and drinks.

  • $36,900 on dinner at III Forks Steakhouse that included 46 7-ounce lobsters, 34 bone-in ribeyes, 26 8-ounce filets, 17 New York strips, sea bass, chicken fried lobster, lobster mac and cheese, and more.

  • $2,357.50 for an hour-long boat cruise on Lady Bird Lake that included dessert from Amy’s Ice Cream.

  • $31,628.75 bar tab for the parents at the W Austin hotel.
What a weekend.

Just sayin':
