Texans take Mario Williams (Merged)

sorry if this is a repost, but apparently bush wanted 30 upfront.

on a sidenote, is it illegal to leak a false report that they signed williams? I'm not sure where that would get them, but the thought crossed my mind anyway.

Man that NC State defensive line was wicked last year.

You have a top-10 pick in Mario Williams, and top-20 pick in Manny Lawson, and a 2nd rounder in John McCargo. The other starting defensive tackle is also supposed to be a monster, I cant think of his name though.

Ive never been a fan of Bush. I dont see him of Leinhart living up to the hype that thay have been given. Bush may be the best RB in this draft, he may not. With thier line, I didnt see him making an impact nor do I feel he deserves to be compared to barry Sanders and gayle Sayers (see sportsline.com article). Would I have picked Williams? Over Bush YES, #1, NO. I think D-Brick is the player they needed. Lets look back in 4 years and judge, see if he compares to Peppers, rather than condemning Williams to failure and claiming bush the greatest player to ever wear a jock strap

anyone else realize who the mvp of the nc state defense was this year? not mario williams, it would be manny lawson...

Williams earned Freshman All-America honors in 2003 after recording 56 tackles (34 solos), five sacks, 13 tackles for loss, seven quarterback pressures, five passes defensed, two forced fumbles and a fumble recovery. As a junior in 2005, he was voted the Wolfpack’s Most Valuable Player by his teammates and was a consensus All-American.

Straight from the Texans website.

A few days ago, ESPN had an article up that while Bush would sell seats, Williams would win Super Bowls. I don't think that Williams will be an amazing stud (as a Browns fan, Courtney Brown looms large), but he won't be terrible. However, he sure as hell won't sell tickets in Houston, at least not as many as Reggie or Vince would.

David Carr sold tickets, and if they had a clue how to build a winning team, they wouldn't be in this pickle in the first place. They made the same mistake the Browns did in 1999 by going for the glamour position.

Houston should be looking for a player to help them win, not help them bring fans in. Bush would have trouble behind that porous line that has nearly gotten Carr killed.

True, while he may not initially sell tickets, if the continue to improve with willaims say 9 wins, will that not increase seats in the long run. Would bush have won them more games or gotten them to the playoffs? maybe. I dont think Bush is the answer long term. For the money Williams was the better pick to build the defense around. defense wins championships!

There are plenty of really good DBs and LBs in the draft to build a defense with, but only a few franchise O-linemen. They should have traded down to get D'Brickshaw, and then used the value of the #1 to get more picks and try to scoop up maybe a Tamba Hali in late first/early second, or one of the many cornerbacks, or even linebackers, that are out there.

was bush incredibly special in college? Sure... but he was contained as a RB for 3 quarters, whereas Lendale could not be stopped... until Lendale's hammy I thought he was a better pick (especially in value at a later spot). It makes sense to pick reggie #1, however I'm not sure this is a colossal mistake. Perhaps the house issues are the smokescreen to allow them to take their #1 player, Williams.
what he said. I don't think Bush will be anywhere near a Barry Sanders/Marshall Faulk hybrid that some people seem to think he will be. Actually Williams was a bigger need for the Texans than Bush. With Dominick Davis there Bush wasn't a need. I do agree Texas should have traded down a few picks and gotten another pick and taken D'Brick, Hawk or even Huff.

With Bush

Some people look at Bush and see Gayle Sayers or Barry Sanders.

I look at him and see Eric Metcalf.

Maybe Williams isn't the best pick, but as someone said above defense wins championships.

Maybe Highn'Lonesome will be the only one to agree with me, but it's a crime Vince Young is not the first player taken in this draft. The Wonderlic drama is BS. The guy's smart and has veins of ice. Only Bush rivals his physical talent.

Sure, his throwing motions awkward, but look at Philip Rivers. That guy throws like my Grandma!
