Texans take Mario Williams (Merged)

This does indeed make things A LOT more interesting tomorrow. What does NO do now? Who possibly trades up to get Bush? Does Bush slide to NY at #4? Should be the most interesting first hour or two of a draft in some time.

Now, for one moment think of poor old Reggie Bush. Well, no lets think about the man who would have been Reggie's agent - I don't mean those New Era fellows - I mean Joel Segal.

This turn of events may have turned things upside down in Reggie's world for the 3rd time this week. Joel was hired to negotiate the best possible contract for the NUMBER ONE PICK IN THE 2006 DRAFT.

He failed. Not just by not negotiating a contract, but by so distancing his client from the Texans that no reasonable contract could be reached.

Wonder if he will be representing Reggie tomorrow, or is a new era in the offing for Bush's contract negotiations?

BTW, Bush and his crew put the screws to Segal, reportedly asking him to settle for 1% of the bonus as his pay - one-third of the normal going rate.

Ya get what you pay for?

Man, I am truly shocked over this.

I think that the Texans made a horrible mistake with this pick. I'm not saying that Mario Williams is or will be a bad player, but I don't see how you pass up on a once in a generation player, like Bush, who also has all of the class and modesty in the world. I think the texans should have traded down for Ferguson, or even Mario Williams if he was still there (at maybe #4? because the Jets have shown interest in Bush).

was bush incredibly special in college? Sure... but he was contained as a RB for 3 quarters, whereas Lendale could not be stopped... until Lendale's hammy I thought he was a better pick (especially in value at a later spot). It makes sense to pick reggie #1, however I'm not sure this is a colossal mistake. Perhaps the house issues are the smokescreen to allow them to take their #1 player, Williams.

The mistake I believe is not whether it is Reggie Bush or Mario Williams, it whether you choose Bush, or choose protection for Carr. Trade down, get Ferguson.

Especially after picking up a rather expensive option on the poor bastard.
yeah I didn't see the contract till after posting, so ignore that :orbit:

it's probably a stupid move to bank on a rookie, but I'd be interested to see what would happen if Carr was traded (which might not be a plausible option with his contract) for a few good lineman, and they drafted Houston's golden child, VY. They don't have much room to go down from where they were, and I think the fans would be patient with VY's development.

Hmmmmmm? Playing most of your life against West Coast defenses may have made all three Condoms look better than reality. Caught Leinart's act on this mornings SC... What a dickhead.

There is no way you can take away from Reggie Bush just because he played against "west coast defenses" for most of the year. True, his team has an easier time rolling over the other teams with their overwhelming talent, but make no mistake about it, Reggie Bush is as good as advertised. You can judge a player and his talent regardless of what his team is doing, and Bush's speed, agility, reflexes and instincts are unparalleled. All you need to do is get him into an offense that he can develop with, and he will be a great player in the NFL.

There are always reasons that you can try to cut down on a player for, but make sure that any bad feelings towards USC don't cloud your judgement of Bush as a player.
