Thanks, MolGen... you beat me to it! Here's another, Taos...

I didn't see much of Clijsters/Hingis last night. I've been trying to shake a bit of a cold, and I kind of fell asleep... :( I think I got it on my DVR, though, so hopefully I can watch it later. I've been very impressed with Hingis in her return, and she does play a more interesting, strategic game that many of the younger players. How was Clijsters holding up toward the end of the match? Does she still seem injured? How was her movement? I would have expected Hingis to move her around the court more than her previous opponents... I'd still like to see Clijsters win, so I'm hoping the hip is feeling good. I don't know what it is about Mauresmo... I just... don't like her somehow. Can't really articulate why. I'd like to see Clijsters over Sharapova in the final.

I've always thought that Kiefer was kind of an ass... I'm sure Federer will have no problem with him, especially since he has a day to rest today. And Baghdatis clearly showed up to play at this open, but I think his run is done... Federer over Nalbandian in that final.

yeah, still looks hot.

:smash: it's over now. looks like we'll be stuck with the lesbian Manuerso and the flat-chested Henin-HardlyHard in the final.

 Wow, I'm an idiot... Watching the Sharapova/Henin-Hardenne match on a DVR delay... why did I just read this thread? Duh... Guess I don't need to stay awake through the third set now...

I'm still hoping to see Clijsters pull out a victory over Mauresmo... They've split the first two sets... Of course, that match isn't being televised live...

*sigh*

Well, damn. It would appear that the hip injury that's been plaguing Clijsters finally got the best of her. Looks like she retired from the match down 2-3 in the third set... :grr:

Edit - A story has finally been posted... looks like a new injury to her ankle... :grr: :grr:

She will face Amelie Mauresmo, who was leading 3-2 in the third set when Kim Clijsters could not continue after rolling her right ankle. For Mauresmo it's just her second Grand Slam final appearance, her first coming here in 1999

Yeah, that's too bad that Clijsters and Mauresmo didn't get to finish their match. I didn't get to watch it, but from the score it looked like it was going to be an exciting last set.

Henin-Hardenne beating Sharapova didn't really surprise me. Maria rarely wins the really big games.

I didn't get to watch Clijsters/Mauresmo either - the ESPN2 coverage kicked off just as they were about to begin. When it started up again at 3:30, the ladies match had ended and the men's match was about to begin. They showed a replay of Clijsters rolling her ankle. She had it taped up and tried to play one point after that, but it was clear she couldn't put much weight on it. It was really quite a shame, as the two did have a great match going on. I hate to see any match end that way.

I think I should stop trying to predict any of this... I was also wrong again on the men's side. I watched the first set of the Nalbandian/Baghdatis match, and I thought Baghdatis was playing well and was exciting to watch, but I still didn't think he'd have a chance to win. They had an interview with him before the match, and I thought he was absolutely adorable. It's great to see his youthful exuberance and pure joy... It's fun to watch kids at their big breakthrough tournaments.

Baghdatis is fun, isn't he?

My wife said she read he had to talk to his fans and explain that they can't swear and yell at the opponents like soccer. :)

What a run it would be if he could take down Federer! That would be a stretch of beating the 2, 7, 4, and 1 seeds in a row. Probably would be the greatest run by an unseeded player in history, I'd guess.

Sharapova, whom you think is hot, seems to require the same training bra that Henin-Hardenne does. But for those of you that like Sharapova, that 'maternity' outfit allowed an interesting shot of her to be posted by Sears in the RR.

I've always liked Mauresmo's game (especially her backhand), and couldn't give a rat's ass about her sexual orientation. And Tibor, you're an asshole for even mentioning it.

Back to tennis.

Henin-Hardenne got two huge breaks on bad line calls. She hit a ball that was clearly out on break point at 2-2 in the third set, but ended up winning that point and holding serve. In the next game Sharapova hit a ball on game point that caught the line, and Justine could only hit a weak defensive lob. Maria's ball was incorrectly called out, or she would have have an easy overhead to win the game. So instead of being up 4-2, Sharapova was down 4-2, pretty much entirely on two blown sideline calls. Justine served for the match at 5-3, blew it, but then broke Maria to close it out.

Note - on neither of the calls could Henin-Hardenne been expected to concede the point. The first one was 80 feet away from her, and the second one barely caught the outside of the line (I thought it was out watching it live). It's time to use the replay for line calls - it should happen later this year.

I stayed up to watch the Mauresmo-Clijsters match. They battled in the first set, and Mauresmo played well but managed to lose most of the key points, which has always been her problem. In the second set, she dominated Clijsters and won 6-2. They traded early breaks in the third, and then Mauresmo hit a winnner behind Kim for a break and a 3-2 lead. When Clijsters tried to change direction, she rolled her ankle and couldn't continue, even after the trainer taped it. So we don't know if Mauresmo would have been able to close it out or not.

It should be an interesting final, though. I hope Mauresmo finally gets a grand slam title.

I'm not big on constantly showing pictures of the 'significant other' in the players' guest seating areas, but I'm willing to stare during every shot of Baghdatis's girlfriend in the men's final. Her name is Camille, and these are actually not very good pictures of her.

Amen. The umpire incorrectly overruled and called a ball out on match point in the Baghdatis-Nalbandian match. If the technology is there, why the hell don't they use it? No one seems to have a problems with using technology for a let, so what's the problem with using it for line calls?

Those pictures certainly do not do her justice. She certainly kept my attention in between points. :tongue2:
