Straight sets, no less. Good call.

Help us, Lindsay Davenport - you're our only hope.

Thanks... I wish I had also been right about James Blake... Since Blake and Laura Granville both lost, Davenport and Roddick are now the only remaining Americans. I watched Davenport's match last night, and I'm sorry to say she didn't look very sharp. With the way Sharapova has continued to plow her way through her competition (she won 6-0, 6-1 yesterday), I think Davenport will have a very tough time getting past her. Roddick, however, continued to dominate also - swiftly completing his match 6-1, 6-2, 6-2 in only 82 minutes. It seems he's found that missing mojo... :wink2: Of course, rumor has it Roddick and Sharapova are dating now... Andy disputed that last night in a post-match interview, but also said he wouldn't let "the truth get in the way of a good story." Whatever may or may not be going on between the two of them, it seems to be good for their games...

Andy, Andy, Andy...

:smash:

*sigh* He seemed to be so sharp through the first three rounds, too... :( Biggest head case? Yeah...

I'll admit, I've been pleased with Martina's resurgence.

welcome back, Ms. Hingis. I still love you.

Agreed. I'll admit, I didn't watch much tennis at all a few years ago, so I hadn't seen much of Hingis prior to this week, but she's been very fun to watch.

I'm afraid I'm about done watching the men until the final, unless I really need to watch some sports. I just don't really have any opinion, positive or negative, about anyone left except Federer.

The women's draw, on the other hand, is chock full of interesting matches! Davenport/Henin-Hardenne and Hingis/Clijsters stand out this round. If Sharapova and Mauresmo can pull out their next matches, it'll be a fantastic quarter-finals and on.

I totally agree. I'm usually a bigger fan of men's tennis than women's, but not this week...

The men's draw has become exceedingly dull... Federer actually did get tested a bit in round four, though, losing two sets to Tommy Haas.

I find it interesting on the women's side that, for the most part, the top seeds have made it through. With the exception of Mary Pierce (#5), the top eight are in the quarterfinals.

I was watching the Hingis-Clisters match last night. It was 4-0 in the first and I went to sleep, thinking Hingis was overmatched. She ended up winning the second set and losing 6-4 in the third.

She'll be back in the top 10 in no time. If she could get a little more oomph on her serve, she'd be a real threat in most of the majors.

During the Grosjean-Kiefer men's match Grosjean hit a drop shot, and Keifer barely got to it, popping the ball above Grosjean's head for an easy putaway. Kiefer tosses his racket sideways as Grosjean is swinging at the ball. Grosjean put the ball in the net, and the racket lands off the court, but on Grosjean's side of the net. Grosjean appeals for a 'hindrance' ruling, and Kiefer puts his hands up, giving the innocent look. The pathetic chair umpire rules the point for Kiefer, saying that Grosjean struck the ball before Kiefer threw the racket. Grosjean calmly asks for the tournament referee, who comes out, listens to the umpire's version of the story (which was inaccurate because the racket was in the air, right in front of Grosjean's vision before he hit the ball), and sticks with the umpire's ruling.

[sarcasm] It wasn't a key point or anything. [sarcasm/] The ruling made it duece, instead of ending the game to make it 6-6 in the 5th set. Fortunately, Grosjean held serve to extend the match. Keifer's bad karma will hopefully follow him forever. What an ass-wipe. All of the commentators that were former players were saying that Keifer should have conceded the point after tossing his racket.

Hopefully Federer cleans the guys clock.

I've always liked watching the woman's game better, because until recently it was more about strategy and less power. The game has changed in recent years. But, it's still not like watching men try to overpower each other with 90 mph slams.
And of course the ladies are lovely when their all sweaty! [no smiley]
