Was reading over at their board just to see what kind of smack they'd be talking, and was quite suprised there was some intelligent fans over there.

No one thinks dogging the sacrifices made by our military is acceptable or appropriate. Obviously, if the players were doing something designed to denigrate or discgrace our servicemen then shame on them.
It is easy to make harsh assumptions about a celebration like that. The first thing that popped into my mind when I saw what they were doing was that it imitated the Redskins Lavernous Coles (I think) touchdown celebration where he pretended to bite the top off the football off, toss the football, and then plug his ears as if he were tossing a grenade. If I recall correctly, they were playing the Dallas Cowboys. I honestly didn't even think of the TTU celebration as a slight against the military until I heard someone else say that.
I could see how someone might come to your conclusion, but to do that you are assuming the kids in that celebration were acting out of malice towards their opponent, malice towards our armed forces, and malice towards those who have died in combat. You also have to assume that these 18-22 year olds just weren't being immature, but classless (there is a difference).
I think at worst they are guilty of not thinking things through as they should have. To condemn them as 'trash' and a disgrace to college football is a bit much. I am also not comfortable with saddling Tech players with adding to the grief of a family that lost a loved one in Iraq. Given the assumptions one would have to make to come to that conclusion is completely unfair to the TTU players.
I don't think my posting will change anyone's mind who is has it in their mind that what they did was inexcusable, but I just think we ought to put things in perspective. I don't think it is asking too much to give those players a smidgen of the benefit of the doubt for their reasoning even if you disagree with what they did. They are Americans Too.
One of the things that would make a Tech - OSU games exciting for Tech fans is the history, tradition and class of Ohio State Football. It is an honor to share the same field with such a program and Tech would certainly be better for the experience of going against an elite program like OSU.

You're right to a certain extent. I'm sure they meant no malice. I'm still sure they're guilty of ignorance. They probably were engaged in the same thought process that made Kellen Winslow II to say he was a "soljah". Let's face it, your average D-IA football player probably has very little idea what the average soldier goes through. Plus, we unfortunately live in a society that continues to uphold false analogies between sports and warfare, despite the harsh realities of this day and age.

Tech has been accused of tackiness (righfully so) many times. When the students shoved the goalposts into the A&M band section, Throwing into SMU's endzone with time running out running out, running up the score on Nebraska (but lets face it, they had it comming to them for decades of humiliating non-conference patsies).
Tech is hopefully doing a better job of acting like the end-zone is a place they belong, not a place they are surprised to see!
The more times they can play with -- and compete with -- powerhouse programs the better.

Brutus is correct. Don't fool yourself into believing these miscreants didn't know they were dissing the Navy. Most of em couldn't hold their bladder when a firecracker goes off, let alone go through some demanding military training under stress times 10. It was pure and simple bull shit, small time disrespect, conducted by limited thinking assholes.

Fair enough, but saying a family's grieving over a dead soldier is somehow worse due to the 'small time disrespect is a bit presumptuous, don't you think? To think something like an ill-conceived touchdown celebration could have that kind of emotional impact on a family doesn't give that family much credit for being strong.
I'm just saying Brutus' opinion is pretty unreasonable in spots.

So, Raider, I'm guessing you didn't come on here to discuss endzone celebrations. You've demonstrated that you're pretty level-headed and can take the flames.
So, do you want to talk some football?
I don't know that much about Tech except that you're still throwing the ball all over the field and that you've been having success in a tough conference over the last few years. That tells me that Tech could be one of the "up and comers" in the B12, and that it's a team with an identity (at least on the offensive side of the ball). Who do we look for? What are their best chances for success against the Buckeye defense. We've got an awfully good, and pretty deep, secondary (including one LB (Hawk) who can cover like a corner). It's as good as the secondary you faced last time (I think it's better).
On the other side of the ball, do y'all actually play defense? What should we expect? Who should we look for? While your O has an identity, ours has lacked one for most of the season. But that may be changing now that Troy Smith has taken control of the offense. Did you notice that we were running, essentially, the Single Wing against Michigan?
Tell us about Tech? What should we be worried about? What do you want to know about the Bucks? What worries you about us?

I will reiterate what others have said, the TT fans we talked to during the last game between our schools were very courteous and knowledgeable. I hope we can extend them some hospitality.

IMO If we don't turn the ball over and we play the spread offense we are gonna win.
The biggest aspect of this game is that it's played on turf. Tony Gonzales and Ginn are both sub 4.3 guy that we be burning up the carpet!!! IMO our receivers are going to have a field day. BTW SANTONIO IS NO SLOUCH.
If a team is stupid enough to kick to Ginn and our returnmen we are gonna kill somebody. We might not take any to the house but we will have some big ones that will give us field position.
Nugent is a weapon in a close game especially if it comes down to a FG.
If our defense plays as good as they did against Michigan we are in great shape.
We have faced offenses similar to TT all year Purdue, NW, Mich St. and Iowa all played a form of spread.
