We have faced offenses similar to TT all year Purdue, NW, Mich St. and Iowa all played a form of spread.

Yikes!! B02, I hope you're not including that statement as a confidence builder. Let's see, what was our record against that group?

Anyhoo, I agree with the rest of what you said. But I'd still like to know a good bit more about Tech.

I hope you are right...but those are the offenses that our defense has struggled with. Purdue, NW, MSU, and Iowa are not the games you'd like to be saying that we have played to prepare for this one.

I hope that a healthy secondary leads to better results. I'd like to see Fox have a huge game. I still hope we play somebody besides Texas Tech. I'm still pulling for Oklahoma State.

Hmmmmmmmmm I believe Troy Smith wasn't our QB against Iowa and NW. Iowa has a hell of alot better defense than Texas Tech. Purdue we had 3 starting DB's out of the game on the road and almost won. We also has 4 turnovers two of them in the red zone.

To compare the earlier games of the season to the last two games is ridiculous gents.

We should have beaten Purdue and we destroyed Michigan. We improved every week and I'm sure this extra month will give our DB's some time to rest will help.

If anyone would care to make a V-cash wager I'm all for it.

"One of the things that would make a Tech - OSU games exciting for Tech fans is the history, tradition and class of Ohio State Football. It is an honor to share the same field with such a program and Tech would certainly be better for the experience of going against an elite program like OSU."

This guy seems legit, give him a chance. Its nice to have other well informed members from around the country, not to put this guy in wstripes category but still nice to see other porspectives, and if anything else hes a guy who can go see some hs football in tx for us maybe sometime down the road.

I'm ready to talk football boy's. I look forward to seeing the Buckeyes play in the Alamo bowl.

IMO If we don't turn the ball over and we play the spread offense we are gonna win.

The biggest aspect of this game is that it's played on turf. Tony Gonzales and Ginn are both sub 4.3 guy that we be burning up the carpet!!! IMO our receivers are going to have a field day. BTW SANTONIO IS NO SLOUCH.

If a team is stupid enough to kick to Ginn and our returnmen we are gonna kill somebody. We might not take any to the house but we will have some big ones that will give us field position.

Nugent is a weapon in a close game especially if it comes down to a FG.

If our defense plays as good as they did against Michigan we are in great shape.

holmes is the best receiver we have on the team. no one runs better routes or can make better catches. ginn and gonzalez both have the raw talent, but neither have the fundamentals (yet).

i think this game comes down to our d vrs. their offense. gee... thats never the case in an OSU game is it? :p if we come out and play a soft zone trying to keep their recievers from beating us we are in trouble. if we come out and play aggressive d, i think we dominate. we have the skill in the secondary, we simply need the confidence from our coaching staff to trust their players in the big situations.

aggressive d:
OSU - 24
Tech - 20

zone:
OSU - 39
Tech - 32 OT

i cant wait for the first clever pundit to make the correlation between santonio holmes and san antonio
The Alamo Bowl is carried by ESPN, so its quite likely it'll be Bob Davie. Since he calls him SanAntonio already, it's not a problem. Of course, Bob thinks everybody on the team has the last name Smith, and Holly Rowe continues to say the University of Ohio State rather than The Ohio State University, so the SanAntonio thing will be the least of things this crew butchers.

I appreciate the nice posts....sincerely!

Now, about the Red Raiders. The recipe for beating the 2004 squad isn't much different than what the 'Bucks used in '02. Tech's offense is really pretty simple at it's core. They spread the Defense out creating natural creases, passing lanes and running lanes. What sets Tech apart in how they execute so effectively is that they have a top-notch offensive line that can pick up blitzes despite their 3 and 4 yard splits. Tech rotates 8 to 10 recievers and running backs into the game. Most of them are 5'10 - 6'4 with better than average speed. Teams that aren't very deep in their secondary pay the price. The're able to shut down a few of Tech's options, but when a defense has their 6th DB huffing and puffing with his hands on his hips, Tech makes its money. At QB, the most important quality is the decision making. Sonny Cumbie has an adequate arm, very immoblile, and decent decision making skills. Last Season, B.J. Symons had a cannon and was much more decisive. Cumbie has a better arm than Kingsbury, but struggles at times with decision making. Tech's lost many senior skill players last season and this year's offense simply isn't as good.

People knock Tech for "not having a running game" which is nonsense when you look at yards per carry and especially the fact that they are actually among the nations leaders when it comes to rushing TD's (when they need 2 yards on the ground, they can get it the hard way).

To beat Tech's offense is easier said than done, but I suspect OSU has all the tools they need. Tech really struggles against teams that are deep and that can tackle in open spaces (OU). If a team can keep a 4 yard completion from becomming a 14 yard completion, they are in good shape. Pressuring the QB isn't as easy as it looks, though as I recall, OSU did a great job of it last time. Blitzes backfire big time on defenses, so Defenses must rely on their front 4 (or 3) to get consistant pressure. On the flip side, many teams have tried dropping 8 and rushing 3 and Tech has done a great job popping them for 7 yard runs and 5 yard passes (Nebraska). Defenses simply have to be deep, make good tackles, and get an adequate pass rush.

Tech's D. Not good. Tech's D is good enough to stop 1-dimensional teams (Oklahoma State). Last season's defense was inexcusibly bad and this year they are better, but still one of the poorer defenses in the conference. Ohio State is a team that scares the hell out of us because you have different options. Mobile QB's tend to give our D the most fits, but I don't know enough about OSU to know how your guy is. Vince Young at Texas and Reggie McNeal at A&M absolutely minced us.

The key to a Tech win would be defense. The longer our offense is on the field, the worse it is for the opponent. If your offense can sustain long drives for TD's, then it will give your Defense rest and keep Tech's O out of rythem.

Watch for Freshman Danny Amendola on Punt returns. He likes to fumble, but if he makes the first few miss....goodbye. Amazing athlete.

Tech has always struggled against Big 10 teams and I'd see this game as no different, unless OSU has a wierd game with 3 or 4 turnovers I think Tech loses 28-17 or something like that.

I don't know much about the Bucks.......can someone fill me in?

The 2004 Buckeyes are a team without an identity. OSU began the year operating with the same tendencies as 2003 and 2004 but the OL and RBs were ineffective and the defense vulnerable. In mid season there was a QB change and some new weapons such as Ted Ginn Jr. began to emerge and the OL began to gel. OSU has evolved from a TB oriented offense to almost a single wing offense with tremendous quick strike ability. Most Buckeye planetoids are anxious to see if OSU can sustain the flash of brilliance that was The Game. Against tsun OSU was a juggernaut playing almost error free football, sustaining drives (one 99 yards and one 98 yards), and making game changing big plays. Just a weak earlier the Buckeyes gave away a game with sloppy play. It was a tale of two seasons with a 3-3 first half and a 4-1 second half. This is a young offensive team, three senior starters, that grew through the season.

Defensively, a return to health of key players on the line and in the secondary are important. I expect the defense to use a game plan similat to the one used in 2002. This is also a young unit with 2 senior starters.

It will also be interesting to watch Mike Groza Nugent kick in a dome.

First off, I'm not familiar with some of the planet lingo. I've learned scUM is Michigan, but who is tsun?

Anyhow, what is your prediction for a possible Tech, OSU matchup? Sounds like Tech might be catching OSU at the wrong time, but with a young team consistency can be a problem too. It seems that momentum doesn't carry much into the bowl season with younger teams. TTU has also struggled with maturity this season, after they paddled Nebraska, they layed an egg at home against Texas. Mike Leach said his team "can't handle success."

The Tech team OSU beat up in 2002 was more or less the quality of this Tech team. Without taking credit away from the Buckeyes, Tech was pretty flat that day (maybe better described as flattened). That same 2002 team took Chris Simms and the Longhorns out of BCS contention, controlled their own Big 12 South destinies until the final game of the regular season at OU and humiliated Clemson 55-15 in their bowl game.

we dont have the back we did then, but if it turns into a track meet itll be a long day for you guys. our team speed is better than the past, it says a hell of a lot seeing as we could play errr beat that legendary miami speed. as far as what to expect we have 2 senoirs who really start (an olineman kne that splits time and usually doesnt see the day after the 1st qtr) With a young team like that who knows what we could have after a month of practice. i feel pretty optimistic about anyone the b12 will throw at us. from what ive seen okie state is weak. you guys seem good, but... and a&m doesnt scare me. your spread is difficult for us, but we have young players emerging ie youboty.

wehn the game is set, youll see some real good breakdowns from some of the guys on here on the front page.
