    How big was the book? If it was one of the big text books that we had in school, then, damn. If it was just a work book or a normal sized paperback or something, then the kid should just learn their lesson.

    I understand the teachers frustration. Was in education up until student teaching experience where I saw how we really handcuff teachers today.

    With that in mind, if she hits the student and hurts them, then she is and should be in some serious shit.

    It should never get to the point where a teacher feels they need to do something like this, but in this day where there is a lack of family support for the schools. (i.e. teachers hear statements like why did you fail my child, instead of why did my child fail) its only going to get worse and worse.

    Way too much play there for corruption. A school in dire need of funding could easily start making more money by running the school like a concentation camp and start raking in extra dough. They could also decide that "x" number of kids are expendable and make them targets for violations because "they were going to fail anyway".

    While I agree that parents should be held accountable for the actions of their children in school, giving the schools the ability to make money off of discipline issues is the wrong route to take.

    Hey! My taxes are high enough already!

    Seriously, it's getting to the point where video cameras in every classroom is necessary. Then maybe some of these "my child is an angel - it's somebody else's fault" parents could see the truth for themselves.

    Our taxes are insanely high now, and you want to add cameras to each classroom? Ouch.

    this is different somehow from the level of corruption that has managed to bankrupt the public school system? atleast in this scenario a bad child with a piss poor excuse for a parent(s) might actually get punished for their actions, or rather lack there of, from time to time.

    schools aren't daycares and barney isn't a nanny. people need to start taking responsibility for their children. the only way thats going to happen is to reward/punish them via their checkbook.

    oh and i fully support camera's in the classroom. both as a form of protection for the children and as a way to prevent them from acting out.
