Teacher throws book at kid...

I guess I'm just spoiled by the fact that kids rarely find themselves in any trouble.

The thing that kept me in line as a kid was not the consequences at school, but the fear of what awaited me at home.

There are other ways to hold parents accountable without making them write you a check. If the kid was busted tagging a school wall, remove the kid from school until his parents come in to help repaint. Make the parents attend detention with the kid. When the parent starts to feel embarassed by the things their kid is putting them through, maybe they will tighten the reigns a bit.

The idea of fines and higher taxes would only affect those families who struggle financially already. Rich kids could act up and daddy would just write a check to make it go away. Poor kids act up, and the parents are inclined to remove the kid from school to avoid paying the fines. And then we have just set up that child to be a failure in life and poor like his parents.

We can then dive into the finacial and social impact of what we just did to this kid. But that woul be a completely different thread.

Way too much play there for corruption. A school in dire need of funding could easily start making more money by running the school like a concentation camp and start raking in extra dough. They could also decide that "x" number of kids are expendable and make them targets for violations because "they were going to fail anyway".

While I agree that parents should be held accountable for the actions of their children in school, giving the schools the ability to make money off of discipline issues is the wrong route to take.

A lot of the schools w/ funding problems NEED to be run w/ even more discipline! If a parent realizes that his asshole spawn is costing him or her $$$, they might take their responsibilities more seriously. I agree that some safeguards would need to be put in place to avoid scenarios like you describe, but overall, I think parents need to be held FAR more accountable for the actions and behaviors of their children.

Hey! My taxes are high enough already!

Seriously, it's getting to the point where video cameras in every classroom is necessary. Then maybe some of these "my child is an angel - it's somebody else's fault" parents could see the truth for themselves.

I tell my kids that I have a webcam hidden in my room and they actually believe me.

I would LOVE a webcam in my room.

when I got in trouble in school I was punished two-fold at home. Gone is the day when this is the norm.

My tax dollars go to educating my child. My child can't be fully educated to the potential of the school system if the teacher is having to deal with a disruptive child all the time.. While hucking a book might be a bit excessive I am all for more firm ways to handle problem children. I believe it should fall in the hands of the school system... for this reason and this reason only, it is obvious the parents in these situations have already failed at raising their child. Allow the kids to rule the roost at home, if you so desire but when at school it's simple, follow these rules or you get in trouble...

Sadly, it happens to the best of us.

You feel the build-up of pressure, you try to let out little farts to relieve the pressure all while hoping no one smells it or hears it.

Then finally you break out in a sweat and have to tighten your sphincter up like a snare drum to just keep from shitting your britches.

I'm telling you, it's happened to all teachers at lest once.

Thanks for elaborating.

Hey, that's not as bad as when it happens when you're in the middle of a jog and there's no bathroom around.
