TE/WR Damarion Witten (Official Thread)

I figured that's just recruiting in general. Because I'm sure when Alford and Day heard of SWD visiting UK, they made some calls to recruits who would replace him, before things were smoothed over.
The specific scenario those two tweets imply is that Kentucky was pitching Witten on being their only TE target in the class (specifically versus Ohio State who already had a TE committed). I just think it’s funny that Kentucky was not only recruiting other TEs at the same time (it’s not like the kid committed after one phone call), they were telling this kid the exact same things they were selling Witten on regarding utilization in the offense the entire time.

“It means a lot,” Witten said. “Just me staying home and playing for all the fans in Columbus it’s a blessing. I’ve been dreaming about this since I was a baby, and you know what the actual saying is “THE BEST IN OHIO STAYS IN OHIO.”

They're certainly pounding that line this weekend. Bryce said it, one of the Armstrongs said it, St Clair said it. Gonna be a little anticlimactic at this point if they don't get one more from this weekend.

Welcome to the fam Damarion! I had too many celebratory bourbon glasses for West that I forgot to celebrate Witten as well! This commitment is showing that OSU wants to use the TE in creative ways with he and Thurman while still having a big bodied people mover that can still create comfort on check downs with guys like Leblanc, Hart. Etc. This will be a great addition and another weapon for the talented QBs that Day is bringing

This is funny, made even funnier by the fact that

I am 100% certain they were pitching the exact same utilization plan to Witten.

the two combined really highlights how disingenuous and/or outright manipulative Kentucky’s recruiting approach in this, and likely most, situations is.

Speaking of Kentucky being class acts all the way.

At first I thought “groan man” was some kind of slang I wasn’t familiar with, but no, I’m pretty sure he means “grown.” Which is pretty embarrassing outside of the weird sour grapes from a coach who you’d think would be above being that petty.
