Central's Vannett accepts offer from football Buckeyes

It's the offer young boys around the state of Ohio dream about getting, and it's been extended to one local lad.
Westerville Central senior-to-be Nick Vannett received a scholarship offer from the Ohio State football team and gladly accepted Wednesday, June 30.
"He was offered by nearly 50 schools," Central coach John Magistro said. "I think a lot of the MAC schools did offer, but there were some who weren't even in the running. When you have guys coming from the west coast to offer, you have some talent.
"He had Arizona, Stanford, Oregon, schools like that. When you have those kind of programs interested, that's pretty impressive."
Vannett made his decision before the June 30 announcement, but Magistro points to his player's character as to why it wasn't released sooner.
"He knew for a few days," the coach said, "but there were some coaches (of other programs) who he had gotten close to in the recruiting process and he wanted to get a hold of them to let them know (his decision) before he announced.
"That was pretty classy."
Tight end Nick Vannett bobbled and dropped Allen's pass on the conversion attempt near the goal line, securing the Eagles come-from-behind win.
Central jumped out to a 20-0 lead in the first half behind Miles Fisher's 49-yard touchdown run and Allen's touchdown passes of 10 and 52 yards to Vannett and Max Shawver, respectively.
New Albany limited Westerville Central tight end Nick Vannett, an Ohio State signee, to one catch, a 5-yard reception on the first drive. Ohio State coach Jim Tressel watched most of the third quarter from beyond the New Albany sideline.

College of Choice: Verbally committed to Ohio State.
Who Lost Out?: Arizona, Iowa, Michigan State, Notre Dame, Oregon, Penn State, Pittsburgh, Purdue, Tennessee, USF, Virginia Tech and Wisconsin.
The Scoop: The most obvious and noticeable aspect of Vannett is his size. No doubt, presently speaking, he has the standard body and bulk to suit up in the Scarlet & Gray. You could trot Vannett out there right now Saturday?s in Ohio Stadium and not notice a discernable difference amongst the other Buckeyes. And Vannett is just exactly what Coach Jim Tressel likes for his offense: a big-bodied tight end that excels at blocking first, and can stretch the defenses as a receiver second. Statistically speaking, there is not much to mention of Vannett as Westerville Central?s offense boasts a run-first mantra. But no question does Vannett own the athletic ability to become a dependable college football receiver. He?ll likely redshirt his freshman season, become a fifth-year senior, and maybe become a non-drafted NFL free agent in 2016.
With his team trailing 14-0, Allen connected with tight end Nick Vannett for a 3-yard touchdown pass to cut the lead to 14-6. Vannett had a season-high nine catches for 105 yards and a touchdown.
