Coach Meyer has shown a willingness to discipline players when and in the manner he felt it was appropriate, even if the player is about to become his first 1,000 yard rusher. Whatever discipline he deems proper will be enough, IMO.

Yea that's kind of my point. Iam expecting their to be a suspension because Meyer has shown exactly what you brought up. Which is why I would be surprised, if not stunned, if there is no game suspension.

I'm not saying he couldn't be suspended for a game or two (sorry I didn't clarify in initial post), but I don't think he'll be suspended for a majority of the year. He got popped for underage drinking...certainly needs to be taught a lesson, but it's not like he assaulted someone.

Just now read this. The base club does not provide alcohol at release parties...the selectees themselves pool in and buy the booze and the non-alcoholic drinks also. The booze at Chistmas parties, Leadership School and NCO Academy graduations, Dining-Outs, Dining-Ins, etc., is bought and paid for buy the person drinking it, just like at any other dinner. The grog bowls at Dining-Outs and Dining-Ins have gone from a single bowl of an alcoholic concoction, to one each alcoholic and non-alcoholic bowl, to one non-alcoholic bowl. At none of these is alcohol provided free of charge any more.

ArmyVet83 was refering to informal Army gatherings like Right Arm Night and Bosses Night, which were little more than a reason to get shit-faced. Informal squadron-focused functions (picnics, beach bashes, etc.) rarely, if ever, provide alcohol any more. There's a huge difference between being at the base club and purchasing alcohol on your own at a function, and grabbing a free cold one from one of about 10 coolers of iced-down beer at a squadron picinc...the latter just doesn't happen any more and hasn't for about 15-20 years. The last formal military function I attended with alcohol that didn't have to be purchased by the individual was our First Sergeant's Combat Dining-In back in 1997. Having alcohol at squadron functions has been frowned upon in a big way since the mid/late-90s...

Apparently you have never been in a squadron bar post-flight or on a Friday afternoon when literally the neon beer light comes on. Leadership (Lt's aka "LPA") keep the kegs full, and quite frequently its the Aircraft Commanders that are bringing in beers for the crew after night flights. Yes, I know this isn't sanctioned in an AFI, but its a flying community thing that is done daily. As for the alcohol at squadron picnics? lol, still happening. Just had ours and it was two coolers and two kegs. It wouldn't be a proper party without one. Same can be said for the officially unofficial Captains Release party, where the newest squadron Captains buy a ton of booze and throw a party with their newest paycheck.

Kind of a silly discussion for Marcus' thread, but you cannot use appropriated funds (RDT&E, Procurement, MILPERS, MILCON, O&M) to buy alcohol. Any of the alcohol supplied for these parties is done through either a) donations from members of the squadron, or b) a booster club.

Squadron picnics and other functions which provide alcohol (which definitely still happens) purchase it through one of the above two ways.

Marcus Baugh could have run back to California, transferred, and avoided Urban's discipline. Instead, he worked his way back into Urban's good graces. He is on the roster and eligible to play. Sprinkle needs to find out what Marcus did and emulate it.

My understanding is that the drug issue is murky. If he was using hard drugs then can him for good. But if his legal issue ends up being rioting, I wouldn't put that on a much different plane than underage consumption.

Kicked off "pending the outcome of the legal issues" is what I read. That's different than "never show your face around here again." If it comes to that, then sobeit. Marcus obviously decided to do what he needed to do to remain a Buckeye. All I'm saying is that if Tracy has that same opportunity, he should do what Marcus did.
