TE Jake Stoneburner (Official Thread)

Ohio State players finish Pro Day
Thirteen players from Ohio State's undefeated 2012 season worked out for NFL scouts this morning at OSU's Pro Day, and some Buckeyes appeared to have helped themselves.

There are no "official" statistics kept as each team records its own times. But tight end Jake Stoneburner said he was told he ran times of 4.55 and 4.52 in the 40-yard dash. His official time at the NFL combine in Indianapolis was 4.65, so that's a significant improvement. Stoneburner also caught the ball well taking throws from former Heisman Trophy winner Troy Smith.

On Jake Stoneburner…

* Stoneburner said he doesn't worry about how position change might have hurt NFL stock. Said he wouldn't trade 12-0 season for anything.

* Stoneburner is hearing good things from the NFL, just wants to be drafted. "It's always been my dream to hear my name called."

* Troy Smith said there aren't many 6-5 guys who can run the way Stoneburner does. "What's the difference between you and Tony Gonzalez?"

* Stoneburner was a huge Ohio State fan growing up in Dublin. Said it was like a dream to work with Troy Smith this offseason.

Jake Stoneburner, TE (6-4 1/8, 249 pounds) — He had a very good workout, showing off his catching skills with real smooth hands. Stoneburner posted 40 times of 4.53 and 4.56.

Jake Stoneburner/TE: Shaved .1 from his combine forty, running as fast as 4.52s on some watches. Unlike the past when the Buckeyes ran the forty on a piece of very fast track, Stoneburner ran his forty on field turf, so the time is legitimate. He was terrific in pass catching drills and caught everything thrown in his direction. Definitely a tight end on the rise.

Scouts Inc.'s Steve Muench believes Ohio State TE Jake Stoneburner could be a day three sleeper.
"He was underused at Ohio State, I think, at Ohio State in that run heavy system," Muench says. "He didn't get a lot of targets. I also think this is a deep tight end class, which is going to push him back a little bit... He can work the seam, he can stretch the field. He is good but not great after the catch." Stoneburner, a converted wide receiver, also put together a strong Combine workout. Apr 5

"We'd have won, 100 percent," former tight end Jake Stoneburner said of a possible national championship matchup with Notre Dame. "I think if we played Alabama we would have won. Something about last year, we weren't going to lose." That's what everyone associated with Saturday's spring game here at Paul Brown Stadium would like to believe. Urban Meyer is big on visuals, which means the visuals have to be big. He's calling this season "The Chase."

Sounds like a Fox reality show. In reality, the words are hanging on another giant banner, this one at one end of the indoor facility.

The rings, still to be distributed, need their own zip code.

"I don't know how often I'll be wearing it," said Stoneburner, only hinting at the bling's gaudiness.

Jake Stoneburner, TE, 6-3, 252, 4.65

Notable: Playing receiver and tight end his last year, Stoneburner didn't put up huge numbers, but he's still a solid athlete as a catch-first tight end or H-back. He just wants to hear his name called and that should happen in the later rounds.
