TE Blake Thomas (official thread)

That's the type of kid you love to see commit to your program - because it is the school he is committing to, not a coaching personality, or a weighing of possible sanctions, or a "what's-in-it-for-me" deal. I'd rather see a true Gator (or Buckeye, as it were) than some five star prima donna who thinks he is owed something for deigning to sign with you.

IMHO, that's what the coaches have to sell at this time. I don't know if it's a violation to discuss the 400,000 living alums. From a business stand point it, sounds like an organization worth being a recognized member of.

In the Iggy vs Mentor regional final game, wherever Blake lined up, Mentor swapped Strobel over to his side. Blake dominated Strobel all night long. He simply controlled Strobel and made him a non-factor.

Who says we don't have a future OT in the recruiting class yet?

Ya I watched it, he looks great. He did the same thing last time they played mentor.

I respect scout's evaluations but to me Strobel isn't a top 100 kid. Had 2 sacks as a junior and saw him play vs Solon and although he had 3 sacks, he did absolutely nothing the rest of the game and they were all coverage sacks.

Kinda looks like Tarzan and plays like Jane. The knocks on Wormley where he's not very active and allows linemen to get into him way too easily seem to apply to the Strobel I saw.

JMO. Glad to see Thomas is doing well. See how he fits into an Urban offense.

Local Ohio State recruits shrug off Meyer coaching frenzy
Published: Wednesday, November 23, 2011
By Joe Maxse, The Plain Dealer

You could not blame St. Ignatius senior tight end Blake Thomas for having other things on his mind. The Wildcats face Toledo Whitmer in a state semifinal on Saturday night.

"I'm happy about it since you're fairly certain who is going to be the coach," said the 6-4, 240-pound Thomas after practice. "I'm excited to know how he's going to use the tight end. I know he's had a lot of success in the past."

Thomas said he has been aware of the rumors in recent days.

"I've been following a little bit, but I've really been staying on our season," said Thomas, who intends to take pre-dental classes. "Every so often I've been hearing things about it."

I'm not sure that is significant. Strobel is projected at DT. If you put a DT to cover a WR or TE, he's definitely going to come up cropper. I don't see what the big deal is when Strobel was blown away by Blake. Not an attack on Blake, but just my IMO.

I may be wrong but I think he was saying Blake made him a non factor by blocking him.

Yes he did. Stupid post on my part. Wasn't thinking straight. Deleted it.

On a different note, why would they put Strobel on Thomas if they knew Blake was blocking him? For a few times, I would understand, but the whole game? Wouldn't you want to use your best DL to get through the OL instead of being blocked like a wall? Aniways... back to Thomas. :osu:

Probably wanted Strobel to jam Thomas at the line so he wouldn't get a clean release.

Nope. I believe that the scouting report showed that Iggy runs to the TE side around 90% of the time. Nothing to do with jamming, more to do with trying to stop the run game. And the few times that Iggy did a play action, and Blake released, the "jam" was a non-factor :).

Well then Blake Thomas > Strobel/game plan, get used to it  That makes sense but it is nice to know Blake can block so well. Seems like we really got a player here.
