This will be the first year I am doing my taxes as a married person. I am wondering if anyone has any suggestions for the best way to file.

Websites, companies... ect I dont have "a guy" so just looking for some quick pointers. Thanks.
File it as a single. :biggrin:

Up late last night doing mine via TaxAct. I like the fact that it saves all the info from last year and you can compare. I use the downloaded version.

Worked too many jobs, had too much SS withheld but got hit with the AMT!!

Add up your federal, state and real estate taxes and that is just sick. Don't get me started on all the taxes on my phone and utility bills.

I did TurboTax this year. I have used both that and TaxCut in the past and really don't have much preference for one over the other. The Fed is easy to do with either and I find that having it for the State is the best, because surprise surprise IN tax returns are messed up....

Interestingly enough not much has changed financially for the last two years in income and withholdings, but my return has been cut in half each year for the last couple of years. I am breaking about even this year, which is not a bad thing.

Taxact = H&R Block

Turbotax is simple enough.

Rule of thumb. In Ohio if married and both working it is generally (not always) better to file separately. If only one works, file jointly, but and this is key. Make sure that your spouse has earned income. It will save you a bit.

.
Turbotax does the same thing. About 4 years ago my wife was self-employed and I do not realize that you had to pay Social Security tax until I started:wink2: to file and Turbo wanted to correct my mistake and I just said no thanks.

Good rule. I always file separately. Otherwise, Ohio screws me.

I am having problems getting the Fed to accept my return and the message from Turbotax is cryptic at best and I can get it fixed. I have tried three times so far. It says the Taxpayer TIN in the header cannot be the same as a previously submitted return. Every time I go back in to try to fix it, it takes me to the PIN you use when you submit. I have verified and fixed these, but it still reflects it. Any thoughts?

Many other issues with Turbotax this time as well. Not doing it next year.
