Tajh Boyd (official thread)

Not to mention PSU does fairly well in VA. Is Taj close to the D.C. area?

Hampton, where Taj is from is about 3hrs away from DC, I went to school there. Most of the kids go to VA Tech with UVA a distant second. Hampton/Newport News is where guys like: Mike Vick, Allen Iverson, Aaron Brooks and Ron Curry are from. I don't know if JoePa pulls guys away this south into Beamer country. We're gonna have a better chance with this kid than with Newsome, IMO, if Newsome's from VA too. Beamer will get one of them more than likely.

Well, I know I'm way too logical, but...let's examine this.

Oregon: Has 5 QBs on the roster. 3 sophs and 2 frosh.

PSU: Other than than the JoePa instability issue, they probably look pretty attractive to Boyd. Clark and Devlin will both be seniors next year correct? The only other QB they have is a preferred walk on named McGloin. They have no one committed for this year's class either.

The Bucks would obviously look attractive as well, but could be a dogfight with PSU.

This might be interesting. It would be awesome to snag a QB in this class.

PSU is very aggressively going after Newsome, not sure if they've put the same amount of energy into Tajh.

Of the three schools announced by his father -- Ohio State, Oregon and Penn State -- OSU and Penn State seem to have the biggest advantage in terms of lack of depth.

Counting Costa's potential medical redshirt, Oregon has five on scholarship. While Ohio State has two (not counting someone like Orhian Johnson) and Penn State has three, counting already committed Curtis Drake.

Ohio State
Joe Bauserman, RS-So.
Terrelle Pryor, So.

Oregon
Nate Costa, RS-So.
Chris Harper, So.
Jeremiah Masoli, So.
Justin Roper, RS-Jr.
Darron Thomas, So.

Penn State
Darryl Clark, RS-Sr.
Pat Devlin, RS-Jr.
Curtis Drake, Fr.

Penn State is all in on Kevin Newsome, and Kevin is NOT going to VT. PSU won't be all over Tajh Boyd, not until PSU knows for certain what is going on with Newsome, and IMHO we won't be needing Tajh's services.

Also Curtis Drake is not a QB at the collegiate level, it would be an accomplishment if he were a legit 5'11/5'10.5 - 170 pounds....he'll probably be a Norwood type for us in the slot, maybe even some PT as a true FR. We've got nothing but trees left for WRs after the Rose Bowl, it'll be either Curtis Drake or 5'7.5/5'7 155 true freshmen Devon Smith getting action.

Our 3 for '09 would be RS SR Daryll Clark, RS JR Pat Devlin & RS FR walk-on Matt McGloin. McGloin is maybe 6'1 185 pounds, not a very strong kid and not a big arm. He has accuracy, knowledge, timing, the threat of awareness in the pocket, some mobility in and out of the pocket...goes without saying that we can't have 2 QBs go down at the same time during the '09 season. :(

------

All of that being said, Curtis Drake leads the states top scoring offense and will have a showdown with a legit '10 collegiate QB prospect in Lancaster Catholic's 6'3 185 Kyle Smith, Friday night (Dec. 5th) at 7:00. Smith is more of a pro-style type but he can maneuver in the pocket and scramble some, has visited UM & ND unofficially..we are unlikely to be involved. '10 PA QB Paul Jones from Sto-Rox is where we're at, and he has been to PSU many times.

^^^oh, that's why Newsome is making a point of saving his last official for VaTech and went off raving about his unofficial visit there last week...

---now back to Tajh, according the the Scout Recruiting board, he has an offer from tOSU,,they visited his school yesterday, I believe it was the assistant QB coach...

So you are sure Newsome isn't going to Virginia Tech but you say the PSU staff won't pursue Boyd until they know for sure what is going on with Newsome...seems like you know more than the PSU staff does.

There are no certainties. That being said, Kevin Newsome is not going to VT. :tongue2: KN was already visited at home by PSU coaches this week, and is now on his official throughout this weekend. His OC at Hargrave was FORMER PENN STATER Troy Davis. I'd say things are wide open for tOSU/Boyd...I really don't believe PSU will get involved...all eggs in one basket should surprise nobody that has followed PSU recruiting. If thins were to fall through, we would probably push for '10 QB Paul Jones.

At this point it would be an upset if anyone jumped PSU, and from what I have read Newsome is simply showing respect at this point in time while trying to be polite...Beamer has been recruiting the kid since before he was in high school. VA QB Kevin Newsome, VA ATH Antone Exum, VA DE Lansford Collins are all on officials.

MD DE Sean Stanley who has been committed to PSU for a long time, but visited Nebraska the week they beat Colorado, is also on his official after being in attendance for PSU's beat down of MSU (Nebraska sandwiched in between).

Didnt Vidal Hazelton go there? And chose USC over PSU? May be overestimating the Troy Davis impact.
