Did a search & didn't find much... Coming down for the Minnesota game & looking to do some tailgating prior to game. Can we have adult beverages & not have to have our heads on a swivel looking to be busted or is it as long as we are responsible they will let it go? Can you use a grill?

Any tailgate tips would be appreciated!!

Thanks in advance....

Welcome to the board. Here is the official policy:

Tailgating and other traditions

Tailgating at Buckeye football games is a long-standing Ohio State tradition. Gathering around a tailgate to eat, and socialize is a great way to enjoy the game day atmosphere.

  • Fan behavior before, during and after each game reflects on the university and the community. Fans are asked to continue to conduct themselves in a manner that allows all fans to enjoy the game in a safe, family-friendly atmosphere.
  • Fans are expected to obey all state and local laws; treat fellow fans including those supporting the opposing team with civility; and respect the property of others.
  • Before, during and after the game, law enforcement agencies will continue to enforce state laws regarding use and possession of alcohol. As in past years, both Columbus Police and OSU Police will issue citations or make arrests for violations of laws prohibiting open containers of alcohol in public areas, including university parking lots and garages. Persons engaging in underage drinking, public indecency, disorderly conduct and other violations are subject to arrest.
  • In accordance with fire codes, there is no grilling inside of parking garages, including the rooftop level. Grills (propane or charcoal) are permitted on surface parking lots.
Columbus Division of Fire inspectors will inspect tents to enforce a city code that requires a permit for tents larger than 200 square feet. In addition there is no cooking permitted inside or underneath a tent or awning.

They can look inside. Make sure you have a top on whatever it is you have (perfect example: coffee cops) with lids they cannot look in as long as you dont let them.

Just don't make a scene and you'll be ok.. use the startegically placed johns to shotgun your 3 beers on the walk to the stadium

The people at Ohio State still don't get it! Last week at MSU as soon as we parked the motorhome we asked the police officers what their open container policy was. They said, no beer/drinks in the stadium and that's about it. You could walk freely ANYWHERE with a can of beer. When we explained the BS policy at OSU games they then said, "that's why we don't even like going to Ohio!". I can't wait til Holbrook and the other cronies who RUINED tailgaiting at THE Ohio State University LEAVE!

I've seen people using opaque cups refuse to allow a cop to look inside. And they didn't look.

Exactly...we were talking to the people around the tailgate we were at for MSU about the whole thing. They even have one parking lot that is the "family lot" where no adult bevs are allowed....but other than that you walk right up to the stadium with your last beer and chug it before you walk in the door.

Completely agree. Karen Holbrook has done more damage than anyone can imagine....our once heralded tailgate scene has turned into a laughingstock since her overraction in 2002. It's embarrassing to go to other schools and feel awkward about explaining our tailgate situation. Oh well, the trustees apparently get it too.

Game-day atmosphere
Many more tailgaters cited near OSU in '06

THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH

Ohio State officials say tailgaters, like these from the 2003 season, are mostly well-behaved, and that they don't expect any more post-game riots.

Ohio State University officials say the days of couch-burning and drunken tailgates have vanished, but more than twice as many fans went home with alcohol-related citations last season than in 2005. "The home football games have become fun family affairs that are friendlier than ever, but the numbers of citations being issued seem way high," said OSU Assistant Police Chief Rick Amweg.

FWIW, I saw a product that is designed to help you smuggle booze into the stadium and/or other venue, etc.

Not that anyone on this board would even try to.

Sneaking Alcohol on Cruise Ships
freshmen year spring break we went on a cruise. my buddy was in charge of alcohol, as the rest of us weren't 21, and they wouldn't let us buy booze on the boat.

He put everclear in pert plus bottles, and told us he washed em out several times... let's just say I can no longer shower w/ pert plus, because the smell of "shampoo & coke" (as we dubbed it) makes me want to puke.
