Super Bowl XLIX, Sun 2/1 @ 6:30p ET, NBC

and if you get beat with your best guy running your best play then so be it

the play being a "lock" isn't the point

There was time to run your best player from the 1/2 yard line and if stopped, call a TO and try 2 passes to the end zone

Going straight to Russel Wilson before another try with Lynch was just ignorant
especially with the play that was called. everybody knows now the pass play you run in that situation if you don't have Megatron is a stupid pick play.

I don't like the NFL much. I use it to take a nap on Sunday afternoons. All I do care is that the Ravens, Steelers, or Patriots don't win the Super Bowl. This morning I hate the NFL.

I remember watching the NFL in the late 60's because my Dad was a Browns, and later a Bengals, fan. So, I have watched games for 4+ decades. Seattle had that beast in the backfield and had the ball inside the 1, and they threw the ball. I don't recall any play call as dumb as that one. Pure idiocy.

A fairly successful coach once said, "When you throw the ball, 3 things can happen, and 2 of them are bad."

This 100%, especially the bolded. I know Cincy will never win it (or reach it), so I just always pray one of those 3 don't win it. Plus I like Seattle as the team of the PNW where I live now. But that call on the 1...25 seconds or so, a timeout left, and the best RB in the NFL inside the 10. One of THE dumbest calls I have ever seen.

I agree, but listening to the Seattle fans and players it seems that they believed it was an absolute sure thing.

Even if you do intend to pass on the 1/2 yard line......:smash: At least sell the run and throw it to the corner of the endzone and NOT short of the endzone and in the middle of the field where it is clogged with defenders. I'm not even a fan of either team, and still had trouble going to sleep because of all the stupidity of that play call.

Buckeye fans (I am sure recall) the 1st quarter of the Sugar Bowl against Alabama, where Cardale Jones was in the shotgun at the 1 yard line and mishandled the snap....and was almost disastrous.. What the heck is with these Offensive coordinators making these dumbass calls?

Yeah, I just don't get that play call or design at all. You're throwing it into a high-traffic area where the ball can easily be deflected and pop up into the air. I believe Collinsworth noted that Wilson's pass has to be thrown at the facemask or lower in that situation, but I'm not sure it really made that much of a difference. The Patriot CB just made a great play on the ball.

If you don't make it with Lynch you have at least 1 more, and maybe 2, throw into the end zone and a 6'5" WR that's been abusing shorter defenders all game long.

2 reasonably good chances at success

Instead cheaty McPete decides to get cute and have the most overrated QB in the NFL throw a slant into traffic.

I'm still taken back by the stupidity of it

Heck just look at the play the pats scored the winning td with. wr makes inside move to get the db moving that way then breaks outside and the ball is thrown where only he could catch it. it's either a td or incomplete and you try again.

besides the offensive pi going on, you can see butler already breaking to where the ball is going to be thrown before russell even has released it. And there's no throwing lane to get the ball low. great read and play by butler, but if that's the call the ball needs to be thrown quicker so the wr can catch it while still screened by the opi and run in.
