Super Bowl XLIV: Saints 31 Colts 17 (F)

CONGRATS to WILL SMITH, MALCOLMS JENKINS, DREW BREES (Big-10! Big-10! Big-10!) and the city of New Orleans... love that town, happy for the Saints to get this win...
Tracy Porter. Hoosier.

Also, on that note...

it's interesting that Indianapolis got it taken to them by a guy 1 hour north of the city (Brees) and 1 hour south of the city (Porter). Taking it in both ends tonight.

I thought Indy made an error in game strategy when they ran the ball in the last two minutes of the first half.

That allowed the Saints to stop them, and get back the field goal that they didn't get on the 4th down play, and to remain confident in Sean Payton's decisions.

If Indy had run a 2-minute offense and moved the ball in to FG range, they could have been up 13-3 instead of just 10-6 at the half.

The only thing that bothered me on the 2-point overturn was Simms saying that if that play was made on the field it would probably have been incomplete. If that play was in the field, it should have been a catch and a fumble. Determination of possession on a catch should be the same regardless of location the field - the NFL has screwed that up over the past few years.

If Stover had made the long FG early in the 4th Q, the Saints would not have gone for two, anf Indy only would have been down 23-20 on the drive that ended in the pick-6.

What a great way to start off the new "decade" in sports. What a deserving team and fans!!

The beauty of it is, that a championship starved town like New Orleans is having a great time tonight and acting like civilized people in the process. There will be NO riots, vandalism, or arson as is expected in sewers like Detroit or LA after a championship. (well, maybe a few isolateds buts let's hope not:biggrin:)

Party on Folks!! Keep the beer flowing, the beads glowing, and take it all the way to Mardi-Gras!

Congrats!!

Peace

So when Brees hit the the two go ahead touchdowns, when Jenkins damn near picked off Manning, when Porter DID get the pick six, did the crowd begin to chant, "Big Ten, Big Ten, Big Ten, Big Ten?"
Former Big Ten Players and Coaches Set to Compete in Super Bowl XLIV - BIG TEN OFFICIAL ATHLETIC SITE

Big Ten leads all conferences with 20 former players on Indianapolis and New Orleans rosters.
The Saints could highlight as many as 10 former Big Ten standouts, all on the active roster. Indiana, Michigan and Ohio State each boast two former players on the New Orleans roster, including the Hoosiers duo of cornerback Tracy Porter and wideout Courtney Roby, the Wolverines pair of wide receiver Adrian Arrington and center Jonathan Goodwin, and the Buckeyes tandem of cornerback Malcolm Jenkins and defensive end Will Smith. Other conference players on the roster include Illinois running back Pierre Thomas, Northwestern offensive tackle Zach Strief, Purdue quarterback Drew Brees and Wisconsin linebacker Jonathan Casillas.
- Brees: Super Bowl MVP
- Porter: game winning pick 6
- Roby: starting KR
- Goodwin: center that gave Brees all day
- Strief: see Goodwin
- Jenkins: fine day particularly for a rookie, almost picked off Peyton (before Porter)
- Smith: best pass rusher, quiet day
- Casillas: recovered onsides kick

That's a pretty impressive showing from the big ten, especially given what Indy could have done with Bob Sanders, Marlin Jackson & Anthony Gonzalez... and did accomplish via Dallas Clark.

The super bowl ads bounced back this year, though they milked a handful of campaigns beyond their prime, like the etrade baby.

Locking out beer ad competition is a crime. Bud has produced classics, but why not let competitors up the ante?

Doritos continued their greatness.

I officially hate Bud Light. Seriously, it seemed 50% of the commercials last night involved Bud Light or Budweiser. Budweiser did have my favorite though, with the human bridge. The etrade baby commercials have never been funny to me.

My top three:

Boost Mobile - 1985 Bears Superbowl shuffle takeoff.

Bud - The bridge is out

Bud - Lost TV show takeoff

FWIW, Here is a site that has videos on all the commercials.
