Super Bowl XLI: Bears vs. Colts(-7)

I dont know if anyone has heard but this the the first time an African American head Coach has been to the Superbowl.

Mind-Numbing question of the day:

Since Lovie Smith and Tony Dungy both made it to the Super Bowl as the first African American coaches, who gets credited for being the first? Is it Lovie, only because his team played first, or do they get a tie?

Johnson gets approval to join Bears

Wednesday, January 24, 2007 From wire reports
Chicago Bears defensive tackle Tank Johnson will play in the Super Bowl - with court approval and a warning from a judge to stay out of trouble.
Cook County Judge John Moran granted a defense request Tuesday to allow Johnson to leave the state as he awaits trial on gun possession charges. The Bears will play the Indianapolis Colts in the Super Bowl in Miami on Feb. 4.
Moran set no special restrictions on Johnson but said he must obey the law "or dire consequences will result."

It depends on the phrasing of the question. Lovie was the first black coach to earn a trip to the Super Bowl. But as far as actually coaching in a Super Bowl, it will be a shared honor.

Manning plays coy about injured thumb

MICHAEL MAROT

Associated Press

INDIANAPOLIS - Peyton Manning thumbed his way through questions about his injured throwing hand Wednesday.
"I attended the Bill Belichick school of discussing injuries, so there's my answer," Manning said, drawing laughter.
Belichick, New England's coach, is known for keeping the status of injured players secret, and Manning took advantage of a rare opportunity to do his own impersonation of the three-time Super Bowl winner by giving no update on his right thumb.

It won't matter after one of them is "The first African American coach to win a Super Bowl"...

LAKE FOREST, Ill. ? In all the years he waited to become a head coach, silently seething through the failed and token interviews with racial overtones, Tony Dungy knew exactly how he would run a football team. He would not scream. He would not swear. He would not throw clipboards to the ground.

"This is a horrible matchup. The Patriots and the Colts are obviously the best two teams in the NFL and they should have a rematch in the Super Bowl. There's no way the Bears pitiful offense can keep up with the Colts juggernaut offense. They shouldn't even be on the field together. I've seen the Bears play and they're horrible."

- Tom Brady (not really)

Are you one of those, by chance, that felt that The Buckeyes should have played scUM in the National Championship game?

Coming from the guy that went from over 300,000 "V" to 1900 in about a month, trust me when I say the Bears not only cover they WIN!!

Manning?s passing gets thumbs-up from Wayne
Friday, January 26, 2007

ASSOCIATED PRESS

Reggie Wayne doesn?t see any problem with Peyton Manning?s bruised right thumb.
Wayne, a Pro Bowl receiver, said yesterday that he noticed nothing wrong with Manning?s throws in practice. "He threw the ball fine," Wayne said. "He threw a couple of wobblers, but that?s normal. He looked OK to me. I?m sure if he had to cut the thumb off to play, he?d do it."

BY BOB KRAVITZ | THE INDIANAPOLIS STAR
INDIANAPOLIS - There are two pictures on the wall of Reggie Wayne's locker at the Indianapolis Colts' practice facility.
There's one inside a horseshoe-shaped frame. It's a photo of Rashad, 32, his brother, who died in September when a delivery truck he was driving crashed into a highway guardrail in Kenner, La.
