Sugar Bowl: TSUN -2.5 vs Va Tech (ov/un 52.5) Tue 8;30 ET, ESPN

From a Michigan board (well, kinda - a sub-forum on a Detroit lions forum I follow):

Just looked at the closed game thread. Re the notion that VT got jobbed, they wouldn't have been there were it not for that missed hands-to-the-face on that QB scramble and for the iffy PI call in the endzone. Furthermore that ball was clearly never in the WR's control and calling it a TD would have been an absolute jobbing of Michigan. Were I a VT fan I'd be took worked up to see it that way today, but tomorrow that is the only reasonable conclusion.

Wait, wtf?

Sugar Bowl had it out for them from the start.

Didn't know peter North was part of the pregame. Thanks gator.

Hokies being hokies. There is not a more overrated coach in the country than Frank Beamer, IMO. For all the crap Bob Stoops takes, at least he's won a NC and a few BCS games. Beamer's teams choke everytime they face a non-ACC opponent with a pulse. You can set your watch to it.

I should actually let it go and am about to, but I was hypothesizing who could replace Frank Beamer at Virginia Tech.

Just PO'd at the coaching at points and the fact TSUN won.

For a second, I was thinking Raheem Morris, but then moved on.

Now is not the time to push out Beamer. I've read that PSU has every top-flight coach in north america dancing like puppets for that job. Once the Pedo staff is put together VT would just be dealing with leftovers.:wink2:

Summarizing the good fortune on TSUN's 5 possessions ending in points.

1) VT, with a 6-0 lead and a little over 4 minutes left in the half, roughs the punter instead of just accepting good field position for what would likely have been the last possession of the first half. TSUN later converts on 3rd and long, with Shoelace tossing it up for grabs and a VT player going for the INT when an incompletion would have forced a punt. Hemingway makes a good catch and waltzes in.

2) VT fumbles the kickoff with less than 40 seconds in the half. TSUN has a botched FG attempt, with their kicker moving early, and linemen probably illegally downfield, a bad desperation pass by the holder goes to a pair of VT defenders, who only need to let it hit the ground. They play keystone cops and have it bounce off a helmet to the long snapper. TSUN ends up with a FG.

3) VT loses a pair of INTs during a long TSUN drive, one on a questionable replay reversal and the other on a PI call. Shoelace tosses a good throw to Hemingway at the back of the end zone on 2nd and 10. EDIT - this TD was actually after the good pick by Clark.

4) VT has a 4th and 1 at midfield with 7:30 left in a tie game. Their punter has apparently been told to roll right and look to see if he can get the first down, and to kick it if he doesn't think he can make it. He holds the ball way too long and TSUN get a a 1st down at the +45, setting up a FG.

5) VT has a TD catch in OT overturned by replay, when both TV guys thought it would stand as a TD. Their third string FG kicker finally misses on his 5th attempt of the night. TSUN gets 5 yads of offense and kicks the game-winning FG.

I hope they've used up their good luck for the next couple of Novembers.

we got lucky, feel a lil dirty with this win. False start on that final kick, but that one handed catch was the right call his elbow was out of bounds before his foot came down.

Not enough to overturn the TD call on the field, IMO. Of course, officials never have been good at applying the "indisputable evidence" standard.
