Knock on wood, we don't have any players that have committed NCAA violations. That's on your players, who by association makes it also on your team, and then the fans.

I honestly feel for you guys. This sucks. I feel for Tressel as well. He's been placed in a no-win situation.

I, as a Hog fan must agree with WildHog though.
This taints the game for ALL involved, to include your program.

I can sleep better tonight knowing you agree with Wildhog.

I am very disappointed that these players decided to do what they did. The price that they will pay and that the team will pay are far higher than the chump change that they received for the items that they sold.

That said, with all due respect, it's time for perspective.

None of these five players committed a crime. They didn't hold up a liquor store, steal something, shoot someone, or abuse anyone physically or sexually. None of their parents shopped them to Ohio State. They weren't busted this year for possession of marijuana like Arkansas player Dequinta Jones or for operating a motor vehicle recklessly, without a license while under the influence of alcohol, like Arkansas player Anthony Oden--both of whom will suit up for the game.

I couldn't care less if ESPiN's exaggeration of this matter detracts from Wildhog's experience of the bowl game and the run-up to it. I'd like to suggest that our Police/Legal Blotter thread (link) would provide a good starting place for anyone who wants to write ESPiN and encourage them to write about teams with real problems.

These players have made a very silly and costly mistake. I agree with Ohio State's intention to sit them out for the bowl game. But, if the NCAA wants to play silly buggers and sit them for five games next year but not the bowl, then they deserve to play.

We don't bash players on BP. Even when they make stupid decisions. Now that these players made a stupid decision, they and their team will have to pay a price. I am very disappointed but I do think that we need to keep this in perspective.

I don't really disagree with any of this.

As I stated before, I feel for the position Tressel has been placed in, AND i blame the NCAA for a lot of it.

The NCAA should have kept the punishments realistic and fair. I don't think they did either.

Unless there have been precedents from the past to show delayed punishment, then immediate punishment should have been invoked.

Also, 5 games is too many for something this relatively small.

My 2cents

Edit:
What the heck is up with this? Isn't this massively harsh:

And I would like non-flame answers to how you feel about having the most violations in 10 years. I would have NEVER suspected that. I would have guessed a school that overperformed for the conference they are in, like say Cincy over the last few years or how Oregon has basically come from nowhere.

They are self-reported violations and they report everything they know about. Show me other schools that do the same and then we'll talk about who has the most violations.

With the largest compliance office in the NCAA, I can see that as being possible.

Thanks for the answer.

Won't it be AMAZING when we can get back to talking about the awesomeness that is what will be the Sugar Bowl game? Two great football teams loaded with NFL talent in a classic BCS game! WOOT! Merry Christmas. Can't wait for January 4th!!!

That number covers all 36 varsity sports also...and also includes the most minor of discovered violations. Since the Obie/Clarett issues, tOSU has been very vigilant in regards to self-reporting everything.

They were all secondary violations, and it's only because we reported them....we could probably have gotten away with 350+ of them had we not reported them ourselves.

Oh and with both Assistant coaches leaving, I highly doubt the rumor of Tressel retiring (in that article) is true. Ohio State didn't screw him over, this was just a matter of kids wanting/needing money. I don't see how this would cause him to retire from the position.
