Sugar Bowl: #3 Ohio State 49, #2 Clemson 28, Jan 1 in New Orleans

I forget who said it (Luginbell maybe) saying Hafley was talking during the championship game coach cast last year about how they watched Clemson games for the entire year and only had a handful of designed sunshine runs. They saved it for the big games. They didn't adjust because they never game planned for it. Not this time. Might not be enough to win, but fucking light him up if they try again.

Edit: "Legally" this time. F**k the refs.

Give Lawrence credit.....he’s a good runner. He’s just not recognized for it.

The hard part is if you ask LB’s/Safeties to mark him in run game, you lose leverage against Etienne in run game. So it’s a hard task.....we really contained Clemson run game extremely well last year, with exception to QB runs. And the screen game KILLED us.

I think we’ve got really solid coordinators.....I have confidence they will have a solid gameplan ready. And Hafley is a GOAT. Good offense is often better than good defense though.

I think we can do this though.

Nope. Unless Olave's positive came last Sunday (13th), he won't be back for this game. Same for anyone that was ok for Hate Week but was out for NW due to COVID. Like I said in Warren's thread, anything more than 10 days is a complete fuckup on his and the leadership's part to not match the other conferences. They have about one week to correct course before it's too little too late (affects how you practice and who is getting reps), IMO.

EDIT: I can't remember the specifics, but a quick calendar check says the latest the clock can start on being held out for COVID to be back for the semi on the 1st is Dec. 14th. Anyone starting the clock on the 15th or later is out for the Sugar Bowl.

Do we know Olave for sure tested positive? We got the entire O-line back after missing only the one game. Not sure what the numbers would have looked like had they actually played *ichigan last week, but if he was held out due to contact tracing he would be back, right?

edit: just read the last 3 pages of threads.

Climpson is the best team in the playoffs now that Touchdown Barbie is back*. So it's good to get them out of the way first.

*Trevor Lawrence is a really good dude. Wish him well at all times except when he's playing the Bucks.
They really are the more complete team out of the remaining 4.

As for Barbie? Meh too much selling targeting hits for my liking. No thanks. Not a fan.

Good thing OSU has 6 weeks to recover, analyze the Big Ten Championship game, break down Clemson tape, get everyone healthy, game plan, and knock out some much needed bowl practices! This team can really use that extra time!

Wait, what’s that?

Seriously though, statistics are a thing. Clemson isn’t a level above OSU despite...history. These teams know each other. They have the same talent, or at least 95% of it, and that goes either way based on position group.

The problem is this OSU is possibly better at WR than last year and maybe slightly better than last year at LB?

I don’t know enough about Clemson yet, but they probably at least as good at the QB position and offense in general. They haven’t been able to get production at RB despite the talent level. The difference is that Clemson seems to play within its scheme on offense and defense. Maybe Trevor Lawrence will spend a lot of time over the next 2 weeks eating Christmas cookies, shopping for matching fall coats with his teammates, and meeting with financial planners.

I hope Ohio State comes out and plays their best game. I’d even take a good old fashioned Clemsoning.

I have watched them numerous times this year. They def haven't looked like the same running team to me. Carmen is the only returning OL from last years team and I don't feel they are as dominant as a group at the WR position. Rogers is pretty damn good though, in the return game as well.

The 2 timss I watched them play ND, the DL didn't look at disruptive as last years DL (could have been bc ND does have a pretty damn good OL?) and I think some big plays can be had in the passing game vs. their secondary. I think that if we can establish the run, JF doesn't hold onto the ball too long and avoids the big negative plays that put us behind the sticks, uses his legs to get out of pocket and create havoc on their defense on the perimeter, the Bucks can hang.

It ultimately comes down to our DB's and how Coombs calls the game. Do they hold up or does Goldilocks pick them apart in the back end? I think the DL matches up well and will hold their own.

Looking forward to a good game.

Ok, I'll be a dreary downer.

Inspirational yes. World class social distancing? It doesn't seem like it?

This year's national championship could be decided by whomever can actually field a team.

On the flip side, it appears that Penn State players just plain "quit" and decided not to play a bowl game, evidently out of being fed up with too much social distancing, perhaps imposed by their coach?

Social distancing? These are the same players playing, hugging, bleeding, sweating, rubbing on each other all game long with no masks or PPE. Coaches going up and down the sidelines next to players. Anyone “wearing” a mask has it usually around their chin, under their nose, or affixed to their face in some sort of non-protective way. This happens literally all game - so I don’t think the locker room is going to change either.
