Subtle racism, ignorance, and stereotyping

You guys better watch out or Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson will show up soon. Why don't we try to compare Drew Tate and Byron Leftwich.

BTW, what happened to the general forum? Seems to have dissapeared.
Open Discussion. Perhaps you are confusing BP with BN. :p

"...and also the running skills of Troy Smith."

This at the least is an uneducated surmise on the writers part; if not a very stupid and ignorant stereotyping of one white and one black quarterback and their styles.

No one (well, Al and Jesse maybe) likes to look for racism as a cause, yet the above statement does seem to say TS runs better than passes, and infers that the other QB passes better than runs...reinforcing the stereotype. Saying the two combined would be perfect just adds to the inference.

Just a dumb, lazy analysis IMHO. :)

Really? I don't recall ever saying that.
Um... OK.

There's no racism here and to suggest it is being ignorant and stupid. Get off it.
"There's no racism here" = your opinion
"and to suggest it" = someone disagreeing with your opinion on this issue
"is being ignorant and stupid." = Your claim
"Get off it." = What really set me off as it demonstrates your arrogance.

Hence:

Perhaps you could enlighten me as to how else someone could interpret your post? :roll2:

they could interpret it logically  and realize that the statement says the opinion is stupid and/or ignorant and doesn't say anything about the person. Once again, reading what you want to get out of a statement instead of what is actually there.

"...and also the running skills of Troy Smith."

OK, now people are attributing quotes to this writer that he never even made: the blurb in question says nothing about running skills:

"If you could put the talents of Troy Smith and Justin Zwick together in one QB, that guy could be a Heisman worthy candidate. Rotating QBs are the worst idea the college football gods ever created, but this is one place where it might work because of the varied talents of this pair."

Where does this guy even imply Troy is all-runner and Justin is all-passer? He says nothing specific except that their talents are varied: who could argue that?

Sorry box, but "to suggest it is BEING ignorant and stupid" actually means that the PERSON is being ignorant and stupid.

My point is being lost in the symantics so I'll spell it out:

27... I found your post arrogant and insulting. I disagree with you on the article, but that has nothing to do with my post.

I'm done now.

Sitting here with a friend of mine (whom is not white) and got a really interesting comment on this thread. He said, "Much of the racism in this country follows the ideology of the first poster. Someone takes a statement someone else makes, twists it into what they want to hear and makes a big debate about it."

Sorry for your ignorance then. Acting ignorant and stupid and actually being an ignorant and stupid person are 2 different things. But in your case I'll make an exception :p

Alright settle down folks. This isn't the forum for a discussion on the finer points of racism. Discuss the article and the authors conclusions, but take the racism discussion to a different forum.

FWIW, I think KevinBuck hit the nail on the head. The blurb says NOTHING about which/what skills each player possesses. For all we know the writer meant that we should merge Smith's football skills with Zwick's not getting suspended from the team skills. :p

In any event, we're all Buckeyes and I believe we all want the best player on the field regardless of skin color. For some writer's half baked analysis to leads us down a path discussing racism is sad.
