Stupid two point conversions (SimpLLLLLe Jim loves 'em, and so does James Franklin)

Chargers now down 8 after going for two down 24-19, with eight minutes left, failing (after a penalty made them take the try from the 12), and then giving up a field goal. Maybe late enough in the game to not be stupid originally (50/50 kind of decision in my mind) but clearly stupid once they got pushed back.

Yeah, I've never seen a team go for two at the 12 except very late in the game and trailing by two. After the inevitable failure, Denver added a FG to go up 8. I was curious to see if SD would lose by two with a TD and another failed two-pointer (because they went for a stupid one earlier) but the Chargers outdid themselves with more stupidity.

They had first and goal at the two. Gordon leads the NFL in rushing TDs, so of course they try 4 pass plays - all incomplete. Game over.

Even a SB winning coach can succumb to the allure getting back to the magical world of 7s and 3s without considering the consequences of premature failure. Mike McCarthy of the Packers decided to go for two, down 31-19 with 8 minutes to play against the Colts. Phil Simms wisely called him out on this choice before they ran the play stating you shouldn't go for two until you have to do it because it keeps the FG as an option if you're only down 11.

Green Bay failed.

How the fuck am I the first person posting in this thread today? God love him cuz it worked out for the buckeyes, but what in the ever loving fuck?
I don't think it was a stupid call, it just didn't work out.

Who knows how the last possession would've gone with a tie game, but Dantonio was there to win. Nothing at all to lose.

Yes, they had all the momentum they would ever have in that game. They really struggled to move the ball so when they had a little Mo, they gave it a shot. It just didn't work. It happens.

There was little momentum either way that whole game. It was pretty much evenly matched from the outset. Our offense wasn't doing dick all game. IMO, you tie it up and live to fight some more. Not only was the decision questionable, the play call was idiotic.

I don't call that "stupid" at all. I'm just glad it worked out in our favor.
If it works out, Ohio State has to move the ball down the field to attempt a field goal. Ohio State hasn't been moving the ball well, and in crappy weather who knows about a field goal.
If it doesn't work out, Michigan State still has a lot of time to move down the field (though that's not likely, either) to attempt a field goal of their own.

I think it was a magnificently stupid call. It just puts enormous pressure on your own team in a relatively low percentage play. If it were high percentage, 2-pt conversion would be done all the time and no one would use 'the card.' Kicking it is statistically your best shot. You still need field goal to win, or lose with a FG, but no more scoring and you get to play in OT, at home, with the momentum.

I take OT every time there.
