Students Shorted NC Tix, claims ESPN

I'm tired of hearing these students whine like some others. Get over it. It's always been a lottery when demand exceeds supply and MONEY talks BS walks. Like another poster said, most of them are going to sell them anyway. I don't feel sorry for any students!

Here is the thing.

It is obviously money driven...

The alumini, boosters and what not obviously have more money and the school is going to get more money by selling them to the people that do the packages.

Therefore the students, who are not as willing to poney up as much money are the ones that take the hit and only get a shot at 1000 tickets and 6000 students went through the line.

So 1/6 students actually got a ticket and you also have to keep in mind that not many students actually knew about the lottery.

Is it fair? No.

But when you have a university that is all about money that is what you get. IMO the students do every right in the book to bitch considering they are the ones that give a lot of the money to the school in the first place. You could argue the same for the alumni base as well...

As for the students that sold scUM tickets or who are selling the NC tickets(keep in mind they still have to make the trip out there and then sell outside the stadium) it is due the tuition costs that they have to do so. I myself sold my michigan ticket and there will always be a part of me that says I wish I hadnt done it and if I wouldnt already be in the red with loans and struggling to pay rent I wouldnt of done it, but that was the case and that was the reason why I sold my ticket. At one point I had hoped that maybe I would be able to sell it for enough to pay rent and then have enough left over to get a ticket and pay for gas for a trip out to Glendale. But the thing is the market went down.

Not even for the ones that actually have intention to go and have never scalped a ticket in their life?

They should distribute tickets based on student rank, past ticket purchases, etc. It is utter bullshit that I've bought student tickets the last four years, been to six away games, and lose the lottery to some asshole that wants to make a profit.

It's hypocrisy on both sides. You can't bitch about students being greedy by selling their tickets when the university is obviously being greedy by not alotting more student tickets. And the students can't complain if all they intend to do with the ticket is sell it.

BUT, the students that want to go to the game and have no intention of selling it can and should bitch. It's The Ohio State University.... not an NFL franchise.

..and bitch i shall

Something needs to be done so its illegal for places like stubhub.com to operate. Ticket numbers on ebay and related sites should be taken down, and those ticket holders should have their ticket privleges stripped.

Yeah!

Communism worked great for the Russians!

Seriously folks, let's get some perspective. EVERYONE tries to maximize value for themselves. The free market is the only economic form that has EVER worked. If you want to believe that everything would be candy canes and lollipops if we all just spontaneously decided to share everything, that ringing sound is the reality phone. Answer it, it's for you.

The fact that EVERYONE tries to maximize value for themselves is not going to be suspended because we "decide" that we're going to try anything other than the free market. That is why COERCION is necessary when you enact laws to restrict markets. And that coercion simply employs force against willing participants of a free exchange. It is morally reprehensible.

I know what most of you are thinking by now: "Enough with the economics, this is a football board."

EXACTLY. This is a discussion about economics and your proclamations that this or that group are being greedy because they want what is best for themselves are nothing but poorly formed arguments about economics, nothing more. I wrote this diatribe for the express purpose of illustrating that it is not much fun reading about economics when you came here looking for football. Hopefully, I have bored you to the point where you are no longer interested in the discussion.

Just returning the favor.

I wish

I wish all of the buckeye fans could make it out here. I have become a Buckeye fan since you folks have been here for so many years at the Fiesta Bowel. I've seen many teams come through and the folks from Columbus are the best fans in the country. You guys will love Arizona!!! The experience is second to none. I love the fact that the BCS game is going to be played in my new hometown (Chicago transplant). Why anybody would live where you have to shovel snow is beyond me. Me never shovel sunshine. I look forward to see you guys.. Come without tix and party. Its worth the effort. Find a way. Dig down deep within your soul. Make the trip and call me.

You've got to be kidding me right? Then why set aside any tickets for students then.

You know what, fuck it. If this is how it is, with the students have little to no opportunity for tickets, let's start paying players. Let's stop making them go to class and take tests. It's about ecomonics. It has nothing to do with amateurism or scholars. If it's gonna be about money, and money only, then let's not fuck over the guys that are earning the money - let's give them some.

What's so funny about that? She has a point. After all, the players are students and without the players it would be tough to have a functional team.
But there would not be a BCS bowl and a national championship game in Glendale, if it wasn't for all the money that comes from people who aren't students. And the programs wouldn't be what they were without alumni. Alumni gets the goods, that's why you have nice facilities, which in turn leads to getting top recruits, top coaches, then leads to winning games and getting to Glendale. If you want to get that alumni cash, you have to make it work their while.

Don't know what the layout is for alumni, but for us last year, the donor level after the foundation contribution was only about $800. So go to school, pay attention in class, do well, and give some of the money back to the university that helped you land that good job, then you can go to the National Championship game much easier. Sucks, but thats how it works.

Then again, you could just be friends with somebody who donates well, as I was.

Congratulations on TCB the rest of the way, and best of luck to you guys in the big game. There would be nothing better than seeing you guys whip the sh** out of USC, and hopefully they can continue their path of almost being the greatest team ever, and almost being a dyansty.

first off what does the reselling of tickets have anything to do with the topic anyways. even if no student resold their tickets we would still be in the same boat so putting it on the students because they resell their tickets is pretty lame if you ask me. i attended all the games. i have near no money yet chose the michigan game over the fact that im on a college loan and working while im in class and still wont make rent this next month. i can see how some people could buy tix and resell them but i dont do it so it has nothing to do with me personally yet i was denied any information or opportunity to obtain tickets to glendale. obviously i dont expect every student to go and i like the current lottery system if it would move on the basis of rank and such but its absurd to just sweep the tickets basically under the rug and let the students unknowingly just walk by the opportunity to attend the game.

I meant it more in a sense that it is the alumni and people donating to the program who keep the program running... but yes usually those people are the former students. I just thought to say "Ohio State Football could not exist without the student's support" is a little over reaching. They obviously have an important role but that just seems like you are really leaving out the impact that boosters and alumni (former students) play.
