Stuck in the airport...

Used to travel all the time. My daughter's preschool had her draw a picture of what I did for a living and she drew an airplane. They asked where I worked and she said God Bless Texas, we live in Louisiana.

Been off the road for a year but am ready to get back. AT 6'4" airlines suck. Like many here most of my flights were free upgrades to first class.

Not sure which is worse, the same job at the same place everyday or living on the road?

Since I am stuck at an airport again I thought I would poll the rest of our posters to ask "How many of us travel for a living, doing what, the type of transportation and the approximate mileage for the year.

I work as a consultant and travel by plane in excess of 100K miles a year all over the United States and Canada. I have had clients in Europe but the bulk of my work is in the US....

Until last year, I was a 100K flyer (American with a few British Airways flights mixed in). 3-4 trips to Europe and the rest domestic. Expect to be back over 100K this year. Man that window from March 1st until I hit 100K when I lose my Executive Platinum status is going to be rough.

BTW, there is a huge difference between flying through O'Hare and flying out of O'Hare. Never minded flying through. Get off one plane; go to the Admiral's Club get a cocktail and check e-mails/read the newspaper/BP; get on next plane. Flying out of of O'Hare and dealing with getting in and out of the place blows--even with short line access.

Dude, I feel your pain.. It is not looking good in Chi town at all. I made the Chicago flight every week for a little over a year. I can count on one hand how many times my flight returned me home on time. Best of luck man.

I just got into Charlotte from Phoenix (around 3:05am EST). I was supposed to leave Phoenix at 3:10pm (6:10pm EST). They get us on the plane only to tell us there is a mechanical issue. We have to get off the plane and sit for almost another 6 hours.

So I get a little nervous and decide to call Hertz (the local CLT airport office) to inform them the flight has been delayed and give them my flight number. I talk to Kenneth and he informs that they will stick around but they close down at 3am and open back up at 5am, however he will monitor my flight so he will know the exact time it is supposed to land. Well we landed at 3:05am and I try to call Kenneth using the one of the numbers he supplied me and the original one I called. Kenneth is a man of his word he closed down at 3am.......Have I mentioned that air travel sucks......

Now I am sitting here in the airport waiting for Hertz to open so I can get a car and drive home. Did I mention that both Avis and Budget were still open and taking care of their customers that had reservations? They wouldn't rent to me since I didn't have reservation with them and wouldn't take one at the counter. Sounds like a great business plan there fellas....

What really baffles me is if Kenneth knew my flight would be in around 3am since he monitored the flight via US Air, why couldn't he wait the 5-10 minutes given my history of renting from Hertz and particularly this location in Charlotte? Great model of customer service....Oh, well I only have 30 minutes to go......

All rental car companies suck ass...they could give a fuck about anything but the bottom line. Normally I'd suggest you contact Hertz's customer service department and lodge a complaint against Kenneth, but it probably won't go anywhere.

Stuck again.....
This time I am in my home airport in Charlotte (CLT). We got a little snow here (not much by us Yankees from up North standards) but in CLT a big deal. My flight was supposed to leave at 7:55am so I get up at 5am and first thing I check the website and flight is still going out on time. So I shower and get dressed and I call the airline (automated system) three times while I drive to the airport and the flight is still on time. I get to the airport and check-in and check my bag and head to the gate. Still no problem flight is still scheduled to go out on time. They announce (when we should be boarding) that the crew is not there, however they are on the ground and we will board in about 30 minutes. No big deal. About 10-15 minutes later a crew shows up and bring a tide of people with them. Yep, you guessed it they gave our plane to people going to St. Louis because evidently our crew is not on the ground after all. Our flight is now delayed to 9am I see so I am not to excited yet. I start to surf the internet and just bring up BP when I hear a discussion coming from the gate (a customer complaining) and then I notice that the flight has been delayed till noon.....:bicker:

So now it is evident these bastards knew that this flight probably wasn't going out till later and not on time....I could be at home this moment if they had just had the common decency to let their customers know what was going on. God I HATE US Air.......:smash:

Made a couple of Int'l flights last year and missed connections both ways. So far this year it has been OK. My Northeast travel is limited. I was never as well read as when I was traveling. Good Luck.

Will these airlines execs ever learn????? They have got to be the dumbest bastards ever!!! Just raise the price on the damn ticket and don't try to nickel and dime us to death....

http://www.cnn.com/2011/TRAVEL/06/21/spirit.boarding.pass.fee/index.html

The extensive menu of airline fees is growing again -- at least at one low-cost carrier.
Florida-based Spirit Airlines has announced it will charge a $5 fee for passengers who ask an agent to print their boarding pass at the airport.
You can bypass the fee by checking in online and printing your own boarding pass, or by checking in at an airport kiosk -- for now. (Starting next summer, boarding passes at airport kiosks will cost $1.)
The new policy applies to all domestic and international flights booked on or after Tuesday for travel on November 1, 2011, and beyond. At the same time, Spirit says it is lowering fares on all nonstop flights by $5 each way.
It's the first U.S. carrier to charge a boarding pass fee. In Europe, Irish-based low-cost airline Ryanair has a similar, though more expensive, policy.
