High School Steubenville Big Red (Merged)

As TedGinn pointed out, our last loss was to Sheridan. I should note that our QB was injured in week 11 leading up to that game or we would have easily beaten a Sheridan team that is good against the run but bad against th pass. They basically put 10 in the box and dared us to throw with a QB that could hardly move and no real backup.

We haven't lost a regular season game since 2002.

Since the beginning of 2003, our record is 46-2 with one state title and one regional championship. The two losses were to Sheridan (2004) and Benedictine (2003).

To answer the question as to how Edison scored 19 points on us... I'm not joking when I tell you that the 3rd stringers were in midway through the first quarter. Our star tailback, Tamawi McGhee, had 7 carries for 98 yards and a couple of TDs.

Our first string defense has only given up 13 points all season. A touchdown run by Buchtel's Ernest Pitts (they missed the XP) and a nice drive by Buffalo St. Joseph (they run the spread to perfection). No one else has sniffed the goalline against our first stringers.
Thats good, but not great. We had a guy a couple years ago, 5 carries for 225 yards and 4 TDs.

Erik Haw in 2003 had a game where he had 4 carries for 250 yards and 4 TDs.

Those numbers are just insane. I remember a couple of years ago, Tyrell Sutton ran for somewhere close to 600 yards against Ursuline.

4 carries for 250 yards and 4 TDs is hard to beat, though.

Does Reno meet with all the lower level coaches regarding what offense to run? They never seem to miss a beat whenever they lose players to graduation. It just makes me wonder if the JR High, Freshman and JV teams all run the same basic system as the Varsity so, by the time they get to the Varsity team, they have it perfected.

There is one thing though........

The team he ran for 250 on 4 carries against was downright horrible. It came against a first year team, Africentric Secondary in 2003. They lost all of their games(6 games that year) that year and lost every game the next two years(10 games each year). They finally won a game this year, in their forth season.

Africentric High School (0-6)

Also, looking at the OHSAA football records, Sutton ran for 505 against Ursuline in 2004. Thats a far cry of 600 yards, but its still a hell of alot of yards.

Big Red shut out Beaver Local 36-0. Big Red has now won 38 consecutive regular season games. QB Zach Collaros threw 4 TD's. RB Tamawi McGhee ran
just over 100 yards, and WR/S/K/ Steve Davis returned a kick 85 yards for a TD to start the second half. Big Red will host Canton Central Catholic next Friday.

Steubenville is very impressive. Steubenville, Cambridge, and Dover will all be in the playoffs. I would like to see Steubenville play these two teams in round 2 and 3. Also, my alma mater Martins Ferry really took it to St. Clairsville last night, 47-7.

RRR: Did you see the post Fear the Horse! (I think) did on JJHuddle? It had the Beaver from "Leave it to Beaver" being Local and saying "I don't want to play football with Big Red". Hilarious stuff.

In fact, here it is.

Big Red recorded it's second shutout of the season last Friday night in a 33-0 win over Canton Central Catholic. QB Zack Collaros threw 3 TD's and returned a fumble for a TD. Big Red jumped out to a 26-0 lead with 2 minutes left in the 1st Quarter and put it on cruise control from there. RB Tamawi McGhee ran for over 150 yards and scored on a 49 yarder. Big Red(9-0) looks to close out the regular season undefeated for the 4th straight year when Baltimore St.Joe's comes to town Friday. Big Red is still tied with Coldwater with 24 straight wins overall.

Any info on them? What they have this year, etc.
They don't have a ton this year. They lost earlier in the season to Georgetown Prep... a team that DC Gonzaga beat rather easily... and we beat Gonzaga easily.

St. Joes is a bit down this year. I don't expect many problems this week. I'm just hoping to get through the game with no injuries. This senior class deserves a standing ovation from the crowd... hopefully, they will leave the field Friday night 40-0 in their careers in the regular season. They are truly one of the greatest classes to ever come through Big Red and I hope that our fans get out there and let them know we appreciate all of their hard work and effort over the years.
