How are your NCAA Football 2005 Passing Skills?

I really love these polls so I thought I would ask about how everyone is doing with passing the ball after having a little while to get used to it.

I've found a few plays that will work, and it is starting to open up others...I doubled my passing yards from the first 3 games, in the fourth game alone (granted it WAS against Northwestern). I still think it's a little too hard, but maybe that will change with time.
 
Haha...I'm not qualified for pointers yet.

I can tell you my best play. I don't have access to the game right now so I am guessing on the names of stuff.

I think it's in the Ace - Big Set. There is a play called All Right? Basically it has Holmes and Hall lined up wide left, with both TE's on the right. Hall is supposed to do a deep slant and holmes will do a drag route. If the computer has left the middle fairly clear, I can hit that drag route and gain a few yards after the play. If you need the big play, do a hot route on Holmes ro go deep and after the snap, start to roll left. You will see almost immediately if the CB is in man or zone, because, if in zone, he lets the receiver start to go by him for the safety. As soon as you see him start to let Holmes by...ZIP the ball in to him. This is perfect timing to hit him before the safety gets there. With Halls deep slant, it forces the safety to play a little more right than otherwise.

This has been a huge play for me. The great part is...by starting to roll left, if the corner is in man, he follows holmes deep, leaving that side of the field open for a lot of yards rushing for Troy Smith. :)

I can't play All-American...

I do not play any video game that often, but when a new football game comes out I'm one of the first in line to buy. I'll play this game for a couple until the real games start and then I'll go long stretches without playing. That said, I'm not that good at these games and I can accept that. But this game has pissed me off to no end.

I tried AA level and could not run or pass on Cincy while the cyber-Gino threw the ball all over my secondary. So then I figured I'd practice against Oklahoma's defense for awhile before trying another game. Oklahoma's defense was a nightmare to move the ball on - and it was just practice. I figured after practicing against OU's annually overhyped defense that I'd be ready to kick ND's ass. Not so. It was like facing the '85 Bears. No receiver was ever open and like someone else said on here, the computer defenders play like they're on the moon. LB's 5 yards past the line of scrimmage routinely knock down 20 yard outs. I know there is something to throwing with touch, but come on.

So, after getting my head kicked in by Cincy, ND and LSU, I ran about 200 random plays against USC in practice. USC's defense is way better than OU's on this game (I can't believe Cal-Berkeley beat them in real life last year with their otherworldly talent). After about an average gain of -.3 yards per play over the first 100 plays or so, I succumbed and kicked down the level to Varsity. This is where I belong and I am not ashamed to admit it. It finally started looking like a 1A team vs. a 1A team.

I'll try Cincy again and if I can't complete a pass on them this time, I will take this game back to EB and shove it up someone's ass sideways.

Passing is okay to me. You aren't supposed to complete 80% and throw for 500 yards. not ever. its not realistic. I use ARMY - I played I-AA Midwest team and beat them 55-0. I thought...damn, this is easy. My second game was vs Louisville. I got creamed 38-7 and my lone TD came on an INT return ( I have 3 of those in 2 games!!) My offense stunk (as it should have) and my defense stunk (as it should have). The army team is terrible rating on players are in the 60's!!!! yikes. and louisville was a lot of 80's. I thought both games were realistic - I crushed a I-AA team which I should have done and got crushed by a good team.

Those are the only 2 games I have played so far.

Oh yeah.. in the first game against I-AA I ran for over 200 and passed for over 200. NICE. However, vs the better Louisville team - I ran for about 65 if that and passed for like 120. I think the game is hard, but realistic. I LOVE IT!

I'm tired of the crappy arcade style that allows you to run for 3,000 yards in a season and pass for 5,000. what a joke.

BTW - I LOVE THIS GAME... now if they could only make the announcers and band louder so I COULD FREAKIN HEAR THEM.......

It's growing on me as I learn stuff...I got sick of the old ones quick because of how good I got...this may provide a longer term challenge.

I still think it's going to drive away "casual" gamers. The graphics, sound and new features are cool though. I think this has the potential to be a game I really like when I stop sucking. I'm actually 4-0 with OSU, I have scored over 160 points and only allowed 17. I've held all 4 teams to less than 100 yards, and held 3 of them to under 75...I'm a defensive guru :wink2:. This is all on all American, yet I complain about the difficulty. I need to stop being such a stats guy and focus on the "W". haha!

Well I started my season, all-american, and found:

I was 4 of 11 with Smith. All short routes. If you ever option with Smith then any all-right or other flood plays will open up if you run with the flood. The defense worries about you running it and your receivers are left alone.

So Smith is injured (ack - one game). I went 5 of 5 with Zwick, deep, medium, everything. Maybe Zwick is just better at passing despite similar stats?

Ross blows. I can cruise with joe, but Ross has no acceleration and somehow they managed to program in the ability to run into blockers and not see holes. . . :)

Oh, and my first (and only other) game was a rivalry against Michigan (7-0) and I couldn't pass all day in that one, at all.

Definitely don't rifle it. I think I only made passes due to it being Cinn though, as their secondary sucks.

Finally - I have always blown at offense, so what do I know. I am king of the 7-3 game scores. . .

I'm definitely getting better at passing, and it's something that you have to work on.

I've played 2 games online (well, 1.5) and I've had surprising success. I use Zwick and I stay in the pocket as much as possible, even taking a few sacks each game. I've learned that the less I worry about running with my QB, the better I am able to read defenses and find the open man. I actually throw a good number of my passes on a rope, especially when I need to get the ball to the receiver quickly.

I've been able to really burn some blitzes in online games. If I have Holmes or Hall 1-on-1 running a fade or a streak, and if they get a step on the defender, then they are tough to stop.

I still stand by what I previously said about pounding the ball. I try and hammer teams with Ross all game. He starts to break tackles if you give him enough carries and it helps me to control the ball. Then I come out in a running formation and hit a pass play for big yards or key 3rd down conversions. I also use the matchup stick to locate any major advantages, and these usually appear with my slot receivers.

I'm in Dynasty Mode in year 3. What I've found is that mediocre rated QBs (Zwick and Smith early on) have a difficult time consistently making completions. Now that Zwick is a senior (rated 90) I am able to consistently pass over 300 yards/game on 7 minute quarters. (btw, Holmes is SUPER freak in year 3, I have him playing CB also).

Try playing an exhibition game as one of the better passing schools and see how you do.

I've found the only way to consistantly catch the ball on a screen is to switch to the RB and catch it yourself.
