It always works out good where I sit. Everyone knows when to stand and when to sit.

Right. That's what I'm talking about. People not being so self-absorbed that they totally ignore hundreds of other people.

When one person stands up, that causes the person behind him to stand up, and so forth, all the way to the top of the section.

Many games, I find myself sitting down and standing up on almost every play. And that is just fine when the game keeps people on their feet. Other games, during blowouts for example, most people sit, and one standing person can annoy a bunch of people. But regardless of what kind of game it is, simply announcing that everyone behind you can kiss your ass because YOU ARE GOING TO STAND, is rude, and very typical of today's loudmouth, drunk, obese, self-absorbed, me-first, illiterate culture. Just a little awareness that there are other human beings who you MIGHT be disturbing is all anyone will ask.

Something else to consider is that a lot of us are standing because we're cheering on our team, not to announce to the world that we can stand up like rebels. The problem might lie in the assumption you are making.

Yes there are annoying fans, there always are. But there are also a lot of us standing because we are diehard fans that will stand and cheer our team whether they are playing Texas or Youngstown State.

I sit down after some plays, and stand back up once they are getting ready to snap it. For the scUM game I stand up before they break the huddle so I can start screaming even louder.

I guess I wonder why I should have to sit bridled in my seat cheering at an acceptable volume when I paid $150 for a ticket to help intimidate scUM's freshmen.

sit or stand i dont give a damn. i just hate the jumpers. the guy who sits then toss right and he feels the need to jump up spread his arms and block the whole damn rows view. sit or stand and if your sitting something big is going down stand up, just not every damned play.

Maybe because the old guy sitting behind you also paid for his ticket, and you can yell your ass off sitting just as well as you can standing. Stand and cheer a big play, but not every fucking time they break the huddle. Have a little respect for your fellow fans, some of whom aren't 20-somethings who can stand for 3 straight hours, but they want to SEE the game as much as you do and they didn't buy a ticket to look at your ass.

I guess the question is: what the heck defines when it is okay to stand? I realize you have said 'a big play' or whatever, but your definition is going to be different than the next guy. Some people think you should never stand.

I'm not going to stand all game at the Miami game. I will be standing for big plays and such if I were there, all third downs, and other important times.

But at the Michigan game, there's no way you're gonna get me to sit down very often.

From an online question about whether standing is better for singing (which obviously correlates):
Yes, sitting squashes your diaphragm. When you stand, your posture allows more room to deliver the note

nobody is asking anyone to stand for 3 straight hours. I've never stood three hours. I sit down regularly after I'm done clapping, then will stand up again if its the michigan game and we're looking to make some noise when they have the ball. I probably won't stand nearly as much at a smaller game.

What about when its a key third down, and everyone else around you is too lazy to stand up (including those who aren't old) for a big 3rd down play (ie. in the 4th quarter in a semi-close game)? Then you're the one being an ass because everyone else around you isn't showing much school spirit.

repeat post... I had to create this one with the poll and then merge the comments with it...

Vbulletin is quite impressive... as the poll usually is the first post in a thread... but this post is the one that had the poll before the merge... pretty sweet.

Last year I was fortunate enough to have seats in the handicap row, so there is a 7 foot wall between that and D-Deck. Still some 90 year old grandpa couldn't see with me standing. So I moved a couple of seats down. It happens again with the same guy, but this time they threaten to kick me out! I was so pissed
:pissed:

I sit at games: during the long TV TO's, when there is an injury, when the opposing team scores, or when everyone else is sitting and I am the only person standing.

I stand at games: during every critical moment, when ther urge hits me, when my buddy is mixing us a drink, when the ball is thrown deep, on big plays, big hits...and numerous other moments when the football gods request our standing attention.

I see both sides of the argument here...

Heck I'll pay more than face value and shipping, especially if its for the Iowa game.

I knew you would do that to me! I should have stopped by and kicked your butt when I was in St. Joe's the other day, but I had to have dinner at Clementine's instead.

I stand when there is action.
