Stan Drayton (Head Coach, Temple Owls)

Makes a big difference if it really happened that fast.

Another point to consider.....if Drayton really interviewed & accepted the position prior to signing day, with Harbaugh's NFL connections (specifically the Bears where he played half of his NFL career), don't you think that type of information would've leaked & been used against Ohio State during TTUN's recruitment of Weber?

I really don't think this is as 'grimy' as most are making it out to be. I highly doubt Mike Weber was ever told "we guarantee Stan Drayton will be your position coach during your entire college career" or that he was lied to like some are accusing the OSU staff of doing. As I stated in a previous post, Weber committed to the University, not his position coach. He will be fine.....

I think what BN27 is saying is that it is unlikely that Drayton knew nothing of a potential position with Chicago. It would make sense (in a shady way) to plan to address it "officially" after signing day so that it would not affect recruiting.

A series of posts from the Urban Meyer thread in February 2009.....just so anyone who weighed in then can make sure they are saying the same thing now.

I didn't quote any posts from @Gatorubet because I thought that might break the Internet.
what do I win for being close? I still don't like it but it's a business and one that exploits the kid throughout the process.

Much like fixing amateur exploitation, any "improvement" would likely wreak havoc on the system overall .

If Kurelic's story holds water, the info will surface sooner rather than later. It will be addressed and those who would be impacted (currently or in the future) will get the story. True enough, there's a significant portion of the college football world who will not care to focus on anything but the initial headlines... welcome to the world.

Personally, I hope that Kurelic's story holds water. While I understand the movement of coaches, and especially top performing assistants, it nonetheless does suck. It would just suck a lot less if this all really did happen the day after signig day.

Absolutely on target.

I hate exploitation of kids, but it happens everywhere. The game plays both ways, and it's not as though the payoff isn't potentially huge for the kids as well. This game is a bit grimy overall at the championship level. Those who don't like it? Lacrosse tickets are readily available.

This will have a long impact and overshadow all OSU recruiting for years to come

I mean, I don't agree with the position coach bailing a day after Signing Day, but that's a little extreme. This was not the first, not the last, time for this to happen.

The kid still gets to play for the school he committed to, which happens to be the national champions, and gets an education. OSU didn't railroad the kid(s).

My guess is no one remembers this a year from today, because there will be a new round of coaches leaving from various schools next year.
