The haunting eyes that seem to follow you about the room, acutely aware of every detail ... yet on second glance they appear to focus on nothing, gazing off in a stupor. That enigmatic smile. Differing schools will say it is a longing, contented, happy smile ... other are certain it is a sad, pained, melancholy expression. Such a complex mix and range of emotion from a singular subject. Who knew that St. Bill would have such a lasting impact on our lives. Pure genius.
